Re: extended aftermarket warranties?
DO NOT BUY 3rd PARTY EXTENDED WARRANTIES.
Only buy manufacturer backed extendeds. I.E. GMPP, Ford, Chrysler, toyota, etc... Unfortunately, a 2000 won't be coverable under GMPP. It's too old.
You will have nothing but nightmares, arguments, and downtime dealing with the 3rd party warranty should something go wrong.

Re: extended aftermarket warranties?
Don't do it. You'd pay as much for the warranty as you paid for the car. Take the cash you'd spend on the warranty, put it in savings, and use it to keep the car in good shape. Anything would be denied because of abuse or improper maintenance, and unless you have every maintenance record showing that every single factory recommended service was done on the car, you'd be SOL. Parts for these cars are not that expensive, just deal with things as they come up.

This. I've sold these warranties to customers when I sold cars, and I agree with every work Ed just said.00Beast wrote:Don't do it. You'd pay as much for the warranty as you paid for the car. Ditto. I work in the repair industry, and all I can say is it's money that's better used sticking in the bank. If you use that $1500-2000 on the vehicle over the course of 3-5 years, fine, but chances are if you're handy with vehicles, you won't have to - you can use the money for other stuff, vs. a warranty that doesn't do anything if not used.

Your best deal, buy factory. I bought my wife a new 2013 CTS May 1st, 2013. I purchased a GMPP bumper to bumper 72Kmile/84Month warranty for $2895. JMHO was close to a "steal". - BCga93sle wrote:This. I've sold these warranties to customers when I sold cars, and I agree with every work Ed just said.00Beast wrote:Don't do it. thanks for advice, figured they were worthless/scam
Re: extended aftermarket warranties?
My transmission, mass airflow sensor, and sway bars were all fixed or replaced with an extended warranty. I too was skeptical of warranties but, I'm glad I got it cause all those happened within 2 months of buying it. Oh and motor mount too.

Re: extended aftermarket warranties?
And how long was the car down waiting for the proper approvals for coverage?
Trust me, I did this for a living. 3rd part extended warranties are nothing but a nightmare for a dealership service department, much less some mom-pop independent shop. You may say "who cares about them!" But in the long run, it also impacts you...

Re: extended aftermarket warranties?
Agreed. They gave me the run around for 3 days and then another 5 days to complete everything. Paperwork sending someone out to check the vehicles condition ect. They obviously didn't want to pay but they went ahead and got me in and out around week's time. I paid 50 dollars and they took care of the rest. In that particular case I was glad I had it. I never warrant anything phones, TV's, whatever.

Looks like it worked out for you. But I agree with most of the other posts, you would be better off putting the money in a rainy day account.SLE_CHAMP wrote:Agreed. You have more chance of having a heart attack on your way to buying a lottery ticket than winning the jackpot. But jackpots are won by a very lucky few.
You hit the warranty jackpot!.
