P1811 Code long distance driving
Kind of a dilemma...
I'm moving to Florida from OH & I plan on taking my car but it's displaying a p1811 code and I'm pretty much sure I shouldn't drive it while it does that. It does long shift after being warmed up as well. What would be advised?

Installation of a shift kit will cure the hard shifts. I would go with the TransGo kit.
It would also be beneficial to install an auxiliary trans cooler.

P1811 does no damage to the transmission, in fact, its easier on the clutches when they shift faster.

How is that so? And I'm not too car savy, I thought the P1811 code causes it to long shift not shift faster?harofreak00 wrote:P1811 does no damage to the transmission, in fact, its easier on the clutches when they shift faster.

Re: P1811 Code long distance driving
The code indicates that the transmission has been taking too long to shift. As a result, the PCM commands maximum line pressure, forcing the transmission to shift more quickly.

Re: P1811 Code long distance driving
So would it be wise to get the kit before my long trip or wait until I get there?

I'd imagine you would be okay to do it once you get there. The car isn't going to be shifting all that much going down the highway.

You're safe taking it down. I would. As Ryan mentioned, on the highway you'll just be 4th all the time.

Re: P1811 Code long distance driving
Last question
Is there anything that I should check before I make the trip?
Already have:
Oil change
Tune-up earlier this year
tires are fine as well
Plan to:
replace rear rotors
make sure antifreeze is topped off

Check your ATF level running hot. It should be a clear burgandy color.
When youhave time again use some sea foam then an ATF fluid/filter change.
you could have a PCV problem and those are cheap and simple to install as part of routine maintenance as is the fuel filter. Take it to a local auto supply store and do a free electrical check. your battery or alternator could be sick. A dirty air filter could cost you on your Ohio trip. and cleaning the MAF will help too.

Sounds like you're on the right track. Check all your fluid levels, inflate your tires properly, etc.

Ok thanks & for the Trans fluid part do I add the seaform before or after getting it changed?
And does fuel filter brand matter or not?

Re: P1811 Code long distance driving
AS far as the sea foam goes use it a short while (like 300-500 mi)before the fluid change. If you use it afterward all the dirt it cleans will still be in there.
You would be better off to use a reputable brand than the cheapest when you buy a part.
The shift kit is supposed to help. Im due for a kit on my car. Although my trans tightened up quite a bit with Fluid change alone.

So since my trip is about 800 or so miles, I'm guessing it would be best to use it when I'm almost there then get it changed?

I heard that I should get new belts and hoses since it's a change in climate, but I don't know if there's any truth to this

Re: P1811 Code long distance driving
If they are in good condition I wouldn't change them. It's only about as much of a change as winter to summer.
