Vibration Update - It's Not The Wheels, Tires or Rotors...

To safely test for vibration without the wheels on, jack the car up and get several pieces of large wood or jackstands positioned under subframe of the car. THEN, use a jack to lift the control arms up to the normal area.

Nope, still there. I've had it balanced 3-4 times in as many months and the vibration always remains and it is always felt through the floorboard and seat. It's not my wheels or tires. I am confident about that. You can imagine how frustrating it is driving away from shop after shop after handing them your debit card and it is still not fixed!

OK, with this new guy for Friday, try this approach...before he looks at the car, inform him of the MANY times you've spent good money to get 0 results. Ask him for the price up front, and what he's gonna do if he can't find the problem like the rest of the shops. If he truely "loves a challenge" and is on the up and up, he should agree to a flat fee of some sort to cover the actual cost of the time, but not just say, well, we looked at it for 3 hours, and we can't find it. Oh, by the way, your bill is $225 for 3 hours diagnostic time. If he's just looking to pay for that new equipment he bought, he may want all that labor time whether you're fixed or not.

Holy old thread. I don't think the OP has posted since this thread. PLEASE start new threads. There are tons of threads on this, how you found this one over all the rest I have NO idea...

My Bonneville developed this problem sometime ago and the problem turned out to be a faulty tire.

The front tire was balanced perfectly, but what had happened was that small cuts from rocks had caused the tread to begin to separate from the core of the tire in a couple of spots.

(I had even replaced the heater motor at one point as the vibration was causing tricks on my ears at highway speeds)

I can tell you that the Goodyear tire this occured on looked brand new to the untrained eye. My brother in law is in the tire business and spotted the problem.

Actually it's called "Holy old Thread Batman new user". I have lost track of the number of times I did the same thing. I am still unsure of how I dug them up and even more of how I quit. That should be a good one for Batman and Robin to figure out , lol, - BC
