TR8 plugs - now rough idle?

Talk about modifications, or anything else associated with performance enhancements. Have a new idea for performance/reliability? Post it here. No idea is stupid! (please use Detailing and Appearance for cosmetic ideas)

TR8 plugs - now rough idle?

Post by Boosted_GR33K »

Swapped out the AC Delco plugs for the TR8 plugs today. Car started easier, drove nicer and seemed to have more response - especially rolling into the throttle. At idle though I noticed it has a almost miss to it? As in, it will run like "mmmmmmmmmm bof! mmmmmmmmm bof! mmmmmmmmm bof!" at idle, but everywhere else seems to drive fine. One of the taylor wires came apart trying to get it off the #1 plug, so I had to scavenge one off the GN (its parked till spring anyhow.) I will probably order the 10.3MM wires from ZZ next payday anyhow, but was just trying to get the car to run better after its failed runs at the track last week. Anyone run into issues running these TR8 plugs with idle at all? Also, about how much knock do these actually keep you away from? -Ben

Are they Bosch plugs? If so that's your problem.

Second off, don't waste money on ZZP wires. Get Beldens from Napa or wherever. They will do.

No the NGK TR8 plugs. Does MSD make wires for our cars? Thats what I run on my GN and Turbo T and I love them. Never have issues with them ever when Im changing plugs. Whats wrong with the ZZP wires?

MSD wires seem to be problematic with the 3800's. When I bought my GTP, it had MSD coils and wires, had a horrid miss under load. Swapped out to Napa belden wires and stock L67 coils, miss went away. For like 28 bucks and a lifetime warranty, you cant go wrong with Beldens!

The ZZP wires are junk. PRJ wires are OK, but overpriced for what you actually get. NAPA Beldin wires are great. Use them on everything.

TR8's are probably way too cold for your car. You probably need a TR6. TR55 is the "OEM replacement".

Intense is about 4 hours south east of you, and ZZP is less than two hours north of you.

I had TR7's and went back to TR6 plugs with my GenV swap and very happy with them. dont need 8's unless you are very heavily modded with tons of boost (turbo setups). Any way to scan for miss fires? i had copper plugs go out of gap after a few K miles.. went back to irriduim TR6 plugs and new Beldin wires and happy. Performance wires wont gain anything on our cars but potential problems (falling apart).
