car for fiancé

Post by coop8070 »

I am tired of working on my fiancés mercery sable and want to get her something reliable for the family. I found a 2000 Bonneville ssei with 126k for 5.4k at a dealership. Are these reliable cars? I am fairly mechanically inclined. I just don't want to spend a lot on repairs to her car (save that money for repairs and upgrades to mine). Your thoughts?

Look in the 2000-2005 (other than GXP) section at the first thread for the common issues with them. Make sure you get a good look under the car for bad rust issues.

They can be extremely reliable if they were taken care of. However, that price is off the charts.

What do you mean off the charts? It was the cheapest with the lowest miles.

These cars were in the$30K+ class new. Taken perfectly care of they'll sell higher than the BB if I read the above right. I bought our 01 SSEi that had a few problems for $4.3k. The trans the steering, 130K mi, the sunroof, the motor mount, the AC, the heated seats, a few body dings, bumper skin. all with serious issues and I"ve been told I got a pretty good deal.

They are great cares if you can keep up with the maintenance.
