help! possible spun rod bearing?

Post by jojo51592 »

While I was driving down to school last night, my car acted like it didn't really want to shift at one point. So I let off the gas and just kinda cruised then it was fine, little bit later my car revved from about 1.5-2k up to 5-5.5k for no reason. I slowed down and checked gauges, noticed I had no oil pressure. As I went to turn into an empty lot I noticed my car had actually died/shut itself off, so I started it back up and it made this awful noise and still showed no oil pressure. My buddy I was following listened to it an he said it sounds like I spun a bearing, so as of now the car is still sitting there an I kinda wondered if anyone could help me out

Check your oil for sparkles under a strong flashlight. Just pull the dipstick. If there are sparkles, the motor is toast.

thanks, I will have my dad check when he gets to the car with the dolly. I still had an hour drive from where I needed to be and didn't want to drive it more than needed

you may not have trashed the engine yet but if it has a spun bearing and you run the engine again or try to drive it, you will definitely trash the engine, such as a broken connecting rod making a nice hole in the oil pan. Get it towed somewhere that can really check it out.

He is going to dolly it down to me so I can get my stuff out of it, then we are checking the oil then take it back home. I think we are going to go ahead and just get an engine from a jy, since this is the only car I have and kinda tight on money as of right now

Yup, that's pretty much what it sounded like. Although after it sat for a day it didn't make a noise until we gave it a little gas it drive it up on the trailer. Dad said a buddy that runs a wrecker/ body shop is coming over tonight to look at it. I would get a video for ya guys, but I'm around 4.5 hours away from the car

Sounds like she's gonna need a new motor.

Yup confirmed last night by our mechanic spun rod bearing with some rod knock. Parents agreed its not worth it to put a new motor in it, might end up getting moms explorer
