What's the easiest and quick fix for leaking water shields?

Post by Rusty62 »

The carpet under my doors has been getting wet with every hard rain. It is time to reseal the water shields in the doors, and I have read various threads on it. My question is- do I have to completely remove the shields, clean them and install the new seal tape? Or have people had success just sealing the bottom edge while in place with silicone? Any other methods that make it easier?

Once you have the door panel off, it's not that hard to just clean them up and re-seal them. It would be just as much work/headache to try to patch them up with silicone or something, then end up with a mess when it comes time to do a window regulator or something.

Where is the best place buy the new seal tape to hold those on?

It almost looks like the factory used a type of sealant/adhesive out of a tube, has anyone tried something like that?

Get a roll of windshield seal at an auto parts store, or online.
