Air conditioned on passenger side only

Post by Gumball »

passenger side is much colder than drivers.

I've been doing a little reading from searching. http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... ide%20only

and from the 2000+ common problems section. http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... 23&p=59120

I haven't really seen from either post that the problem really is the air mix actuator. or at least I haven't read that replacing it was the fix.

do I really have to remove the dash to fix this problem? if so I may have to live with it. my wrenching days are over.

This should be added to the Common Problems. When the passenger side is colder, but the drivers side is cool, but not cold, the system is low on freon. The book calls for 2lbs of freon, but it performs much better with 2.5lbs. You'll have to convince your AC guy to charge up the system over spec to make it work correctly.

do you think if I try something like a can of 134a would help? or do you recommend another product?
also I would say the rear vents aren't that cold.

The rear vents are controlled by the passenger side.

You could try a can of 134a, but unless you know how much is in the system already you'd just be guessing. If I were you, I'd have an AC shop do a full evac and recharge. They can make sure its 100% right then. My guy charges $60 for this.
