I need some advice to try and troubleshoot my daughters Bonne.
She finally replaced the battery so now it attempts to run but stalls a few seconds after starting.
The SSEi had been having this problem before the winter and it was getting progressively worse, so she parked it and drove her Escape. The Ford is in way worse shape.....no surprise. She says the Ford wobbles and she has to add steering fluid constantly....
So she tried disconnecting the MAF but no effect, still stalls. She can smell unburnt fuel so it appears to be getting fuel.
The plugs were replaced. The TPS & O2 sensor are not that old. The ICM was replaced as well as the PCM.
It had been throwing an EGR code last year but we ignored it. The EGR was replaced with a Bonnevilles Unlimited used unit when I had the car. I can't think of anything that hasn't been replaced. Original fuel pump. No cat.
Maybe some other control module...??

That 3 seconds sounds a lot like a security issue... From the factory the fuel enable circuit is set to 4 seconds... so if it does start it will dies in 4 seconds if there is a security problem..
But the stalling while driving is odd... If she feathers the throttle while starting it will it continue to run? If it does then it may very well be an IAC issue.. But you'd need to see the live data to know whats going on..
Because she smells fuel when it dies, I thought this may be more indicative of not getting enough air.
I asked her to try what you suggested so we'll see what happens.....

She tried it again and gave it some throttle but it died just the same.
So what can be done about a security issue? Will she have to get it towed to a dealer to Tech 2 it?

I thought (at least on 99s) that security issues wouldn't even let the car start? It almost sounds like what mine did when my maf went bad. It would crank and fire, and then die right away, even with the maf unplugged. They swapped a new maf on and it worked. If she has access or can try a spare maf, it might be worth it. I remembered mine smelling super rich too when it would die.
Also, when it dies, does it act like she just turns the key off, or does it stutter and act like it's dying before it does? My maf acted like I just turned the key off.

I found her a used MAF for $60. She will replace it and see if that solves the problem.
I see another person has a similar problem with his 01 so I subscribed to his topic....

LOL it pissed off her husband who was insulted that she did it.........and didn't have time to make his dinner when he got home from work.

Ya right, that's why the car has been sitting idle the last 6 months.
She had to replace the battery just to get it started....again all while nursing my grandson!
You can imagine how proud she was to have done it herself.
The feeling of satisfaction, as we all know, is priceless.

I always encourage the daughters and grand-daughters to learn all they can about everything, especially cars. I told them I do not want them to have to depend on a man (or a woman). Sounds like the son-in-law needs to get a new program. I've had one or two like that too. Glad your daughter can take care of herself and the grand-children. - BC

I was raises with the mentality that the woman shouldn't ever do work like that, but now that I'm older and with my wife who likes to do things herself and not be coddled, I like that way a lot better. I would want my daughter to know how to get herself out of a pinch if she needed to. That's why if I have a daughter, she'll be outside under the car with me learning.

It doesn't even kick a code. Tho I did notice the temp screen came on with turning signal. It's a black screen unless the turning signal is on. It's electrical. That's like...impossible to figure out
