dash cam

Post by SSEi95 »

I've been thinking about getting one for a while because:

1) I like techie stuff like this
2) I was side-swiped in the truck a few months back and would have liked to catch it on video (or future accidents if they were to occur)
3) After seeing all the crazy stuff happening in our society the last few years I would like to have something to protect myself with.

I've only skimmed the internet so far but I've seen basic ones as cheap as $17, and as much as $4500 for police grade systems. I'm thinking something in the $100-$100 range would be more than adequate for me. I stumbled across the one below when searching online. Good price and nice feature set for the money.

Anyone here already run one? Or have any advise on selecting or using one?

I have been gravitating more towards the car PC solutions, as that opens up just about any doors you want.

I recommend more than just forward facing however. I would also want a rear facing at minimum. But you do all that, why not integrate it in to the head unit? Why not tie in OBD II as well. Media and movies are a must. I hope you can see the argument that goes down in my head.

I see exactly what you are talking about. I've thought about doing the whole PC thing. The appeal to the link above though is that it is a simple solution that I can easily move between either vehicle I have. It is also a front & interior facing camera. Maybe someday when I have more time and money I would look into something with 3-5 cameras, GPS, wifi/cellular connectivity, blah, blah to do a full integration. That's just not feasible right now though.

I run a DVR-027. Decent image quality, but a bit bulky for my liking. If I were to do it again I'd go smaller. Cost me $70.

I probably should look into this too. I've had way too many close calls in the past because of people just being stupid, and it would be nice to have the proof.

Ive thought about a dash cam a few times myself, can never hurt to have video if there ever was a accident.

Got me thinking of this crazy Eclipse https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoWTd8TlaeU Maybe not so much about police protection(never know tho lol) but just thought all the technology in this car was pretty neat, mainly that rearview camera.

I bought two of these already and for the $53 they do everything you need if you just want a front facing camera.

I know my cousin had some kind of camera that sat behind his rear view camera. It was controlled by some company and was constantly recording and streaming video to them and would record it if there was motion. I believe he got some kind of insurance discount with it.
