will a saturated charcoal canister cause a po171?
Took my car to the dealer today and they said when the pulled the line to the charcoal canister gas came running out and this is causing my po171.They said they will replace it for $270 labor included.
Will this solve my check engine light problem?
When i asked about cause they said was from overfilling tank.
Is it hard to change and should i do it myself or is $270 a good price?

When filling the tank, stop when the pump kicks off. That will prevent the over-filling. The canister should be fairly easy to replace. It's under the car on the driver's side near the back wheel. Just pay attention to how everything connects to it.

Archon thanx for info. Was wondering if anyone had ever heard the po171 code related to the canister? The reason i ask is if it is the problem i never found that info on this site unless i overlooked it.

I have not heard of the charcoal canister causing a lean code.

then hopefully this post may help someone else because the car passed inspection today. No more check engine light. The dealer said they were confused at first because code said lean but the fuel trim said rich. They said the raw gas was being sucked into the engine.Maybe the PCM was turning up the air because extra gas was coming in and that set the code?
