I'm new to the forum, lots of great stuff here. I am seeking info on a transmission I pulled from a salvage yard. It's a 4t65e hd from a 2000 Buick Regal GS Supercharged. It has a Goodwrench Service Sticker attached that shows it is a "Service Replacement Transmission Assembly". It has another sticker too, GM R DOT part no 10219021 with serial no 10969081. It also has a Hydra Matic metal tag attached to the top with code no 0XA5 and 2 different font stamps for serial no 0179 and 75648. This tag is covering another stamped code on the housing itself. The diff cover has stamped numbers too. And it has the steel identification tag attached on the back.

I wanted to introduce myself as new, but not inexperienced. If my question is a new one here, I'm hoping this is where I'll find out more about it.

Is there a way to access the service records on this tranny without paying for a car fax report? I would like to know the details of this unit, especially if it has been updated to take care of the TSBs. If so, would GM have installed a shift kit too?

I am doing a L67 power train swap. The old tranny has the internal range selector switch and this replacement has an external unit. Is it possible to convert the replacement to accept the internal switch, or is the the only option to mod my harness to the external switch?

Carfax will not tell you any specifics about the transmission. You may be able to go to a dealer and see if they can research the sale. I am sure that it would have the current updates up to the time of the rebuild.

As far as converting the range selector, I have never heard of anyone doing it.

You wouldn't get anything from GM either (through GMVIS), unless you have the VIN# of the car it came from. Stuff doesn't get tracked by part numbers, or any other tagging on the trans.

Carfax won't report anything other than it having had transmission work, but again, you would need the VIN# or license plate of the vehicle it came out of.

I haven't used CarFax in a long long time. I don't get along with the idea that information like this is a prepaid operation with no promises of what you can get, if anything at all. Reminds me of the people search scams. Once you pay their fee, your info is automatically updated in their database without your consent. Its a great business plan though. It would be great to know what mileage that unit was transferred into the car and which TSB's have been taken care of. Anyways, it's still going to get a new filter, gaskets, Shift Kit (if needed), and a drain plug in the replacement pan. It's a shame the salvage yard I found this in removes the tranny fluid by punching a hole in the pan and shoving a rubber plug in it when done. They don't have the courtesy to punch that hole in a spot friendly for a drain plug, they use the concave area around a pan bolt to prevent the tool from going out of control. Every vehicle there has one bad part in common.

Well then, I will know more about this once I finish the cleanup and pull the cover. I'll let you know what I discover.
