2000 SSEi suspension upgrade time.

Talk about modifications, or anything else associated with performance enhancements. Have a new idea for performance/reliability? Post it here. No idea is stupid! (please use Detailing and Appearance for cosmetic ideas)

2000 SSEi suspension upgrade time.

Post by Zeik75 »

So I have realized that the intense meet is not far away and the 2000 still needs work so I need to get started with things. What I am wanting to do is upgrade the handling and feel as much as I can but not so much power. I am aware it won't handle like an evo or something but it could still be pretty fun.

My current plans are:
1. upgraded swaybars (GXP or addco)
2. Poly endlinks and sway-bar bushings.
3. New struts and shocks, whatever is the best handling. I heard GP struts work for the front with some mods. If anyone can lead me in the right direction for that it would be helpful. I would also like to keep the air ride.
4. Lowering springs, hopefully others have found a good spec for these.
5. Poly motor mounts, already did the puck mount but would like to do the rear trans and engine one. I think I can so a similar puck mount for the engine one but not sure what to do for the back 2.
6. Of course check steering and suck, tie rods ball joints, etc...
If there would be some way to adjust camber and such that would also be nice.
7. Lastly I need some good summer tires probably for the stock rims as much as I would like different rims I don't think it's in the budget.

That's all for now. I would like suggestions on cheap parts obviously but I am not afraid to pay more for the part that lasts 20 years instead of 5.

2000 SSEi R.I.P. Dead now :( INTENSE FWI, polished LIM, P&P supercharger, custom radiator, standalone trans cooler, trans-go shift kit (donating to the 88)

2002 2500HD Silverado with the 8.1 Vortec and Alison tranny. Likes to eat GT Mustangs and lots of tires, and all while stock!

I am with you on your Suspension Upgrades.
However, does your Bonnie need everything replaced? I have FE5's from a GXP for struts and rears, and am going to find the Anti-Sways from a GXP as well. The only question is has anyone retro-fitted a rear anti-sway bar?

Poly mounts are cool and doing my Hockey puck this week, but I dont know of any aftermarket tranny or enging mounts that do the trick. Let me know if you hear anything.

Good Luck and keep us informed!!

The GP struts can probably be made to work, but no one has done this so it's hard to tell what you would have to do to make it work. They should bolt up to the knuckle at the bottom but I believe the GP strut is slightly taller and the mounting pattern up top is what will be the issue.

As long as you're talking about a Bonneville GXP, this has been done by many members including myself. The sway bars will swap over directly. The front is the same diameter except that it is solid, rather than the hollow FE2 sway bar. The rear sway bar is a little thicker, so you'll want to have the GXP bushings with it as well.
