Crankshaft Position Sensor
Crankshaft Position Sensor
So it has been determined that my crankshaft sensor has gone bad. I have done a search on here about replacing, but have only found remarks about a video. I have not been able to find any links to such video nor has a google search turned up video for a 2001 bonnie or 3800 series II engine. Does anyone have a link for video or write-up for replacing? Also is a certain puller required for removing balance pulley? The only pulley I have is an older chicken foot type puller. It seems fairly straight forward, remove pulley remove sensor, replace sensor, and re install pulley. Is there anything that should be done to computer after install?

awesome, thanks for the quick reply.
Re: Crankshaft Position Sensor
Oh my, just watched video. It is almost as comical listening to the commentary as it was informational. Look to be as straight forward as I thought it would be. Looks like my puller in video, just might have to pick up a socket. don't think my impact set goes that high.
Re: Crankshaft Position Sensor
Does anyone know the size socket it takes to remove the bolt? 1-5/16"? Also are the holes use by a puller 1/4-28?

Re: Crankshaft Position Sensor
Crank bolt is 15/16" or 24mm
In the video, it says the puller bolts are 1/4-20 x 5", but internet research says 1/4-28 x 3.5".
I use this kit, but I'm not sure what the threads are: https://www.google.com/search?q=(LI45300&rlz=1C1ASUM_enUS509US509&oq=(LI45300&aqs=chrome..69i57.474j0j4&sourceid=chrome&espv=210&es_sm=122&ie=UTF-8#q=LISLE+45300&safe=off&tbm=shop

Re: Crankshaft Position Sensor
thanks for the input. I miss read the socket size. Could have swore it said 1-5/16. glad I did not buy a socket before I checked the bolt. The bolts I used were 1/4-28x3" and were more than long enough. I was hoping that my impact would be strong enough to break bolt loose, but ended up having to engineer a wedge to hold pulley. All in all it was not to bad of a job, took about 2hrs. to drag everything out, engineer a wedge and change part.

Re: Crankshaft Position Sensor
Next time (hopefully never), just put a vice grips on the flexplate to keep the engine from turning.

Re: Crankshaft Position Sensor
the hardest part of changing my CPS was the *dang* pulley bolt, glad you got that taken care of a bad CPS = SO MANY HEADACHES
Re: Crankshaft Position Sensor
Here's my experience with it: http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... 35868.html. I did a couple of things a little differently and also found a puller set with the right bolts already in the kit.
