Well I got lucky .....

the GM dealer had my cam magnet and timing tensioner instock.(I had already bought the chain/gears) They even gave me discounts because they are nice fellow's :)

Got those on along with my new timing chain and gears

The old tensioner was very worn.

Things are progressing, but the 3am nite shifts are slowing me down, after work in the morning, I will be getting out the torque wrench and starting to put things back together.

Thanks again guys, you made this an easy mission! (although it's not over)

And I believe that bearing on the timing cover has motor oil in it?

That is your oil pump. The FSM states to pack it with petroleum jelly for the initial start up. You can remove the plate and there are just 2 rings in there that make up the gear pump. Just watch the orientation of the gears and plate to make sure you get them back in right. The torque specs are listed in the FSM as the pump cover to timing cover bolts.

Well It started! I guess that's good.

I did my trans pan/filter/gasket/oil. Now when I started the car, the trans sounds like it wants to chew itself LOL!. I put 5.6 Litres of trans fluid in, Will I need more considering my trans cooler and lines? I still have about a litre.

Opinions? Other than that it seemed to startup and run fine, no other bad noises

You need to drive the car and run the trans into the gears. Get it to operating temperatures then check the dipstick again while the motor is running. Fill to the correct level per the dipstick. Its pretty hard to tell exactly how much to put back into a trans after its been drained as there isn't an exact amount that comes out every time.

Thanks for the reassurance alibi, tomorrow I will finish up.

1 more question. What do I need to know in order to open my alternator? The stud that connects the + wire to the battery from the alt bolted out of the alternator, I have the stud and nut. What type of socket is required? as it does not seem like I have one to fit the alt.

Open the alt? Stud? As in the the threaded stud on the back (non pulley side) where the small black cable connects to? That should be a 7 or 8mm nut (don't remember which at the moment) but the stud isn't supposed to come out.

I'm really not sure if its serviceable or not...

Yes alibi The stud for the black power wire off the ALT.

See when I unbolted the wire, it was really seized on the stud, and the whole stud bolted out. I did save the nut from inside the alternator for the stud, in order to bolt the stud back onto the alt.

Well the sound wasn't the trans.

It seems to be coming from the harmonic balancer. I stopped by my cousins shop and this was his opinion. You can hear a 'tick tick tick tick' coming from that side of the motor.

Water pump is new. Had my alternator fixed and tested at the shop today. Power steering pump has no sound when spinning by hand, along with the belt tensioner. The balancer is not hitting the crank sensor either.

I guess I will be pulling the balancer back off, and re-inspecting it. i'll let everyone know what I find out.
