I'm new here. Got a few questions.

Discuss washing, waxing and detailing information as well as interior/exterior cosmetic modifications. This includes neons, body, cosmetic wheels, etc. Even under the hood detailing.

I'm new here. Got a few questions.

Post by Junior28 »

Hello all,

I just recently picked up a 2000 Bonneville SSEi and while I haven't been able to drive it much, I already love it. Being 21, I have the urge to do something to this car, so I have a few questions. Any help is greatly appreciated!

1.) I would like to change the color of the bulb for the ignition (the ring around where I put the key in) and was wondering what size bulb and connector I would need. It would be an LED. Also, are there any other bulbs in the car I could easily get to and change? Again, just trying to make some quick changes to make this car "my own".

2.) On the 2000 (and I believe 2001) Bonnevilles, the cupholders in the center console are positioned differently than in the 2002+ models. Would it be possible to swap a 2002+ center console into my 2000 SSEi? Two things I am concerned about are the different locations of the traction control button and the lack of a cubby in the newer models. Will this (or anything else) prevent me from performing this swap?

3.) Is it possible to make the center tail light (the long strip on the trunk lid) light up? If so, how? Personally, I think it would look pretty cool. :)

4.) Somewhere on here, I saw that someone wrapped the molding around their windows in some type of carbon fiber looking material. Does anyone know what this is or where I can get it?

Well, I'm sure I'll have more questions, but this is all I can think of for now.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Welcome to the forum!

1. I don't remember the bulb number for that, and I can't remember if you can just replace it or if it needs soldered. I plan to put a red LED in there in the future, but that is currently way down on my list. Others might step in that know more about that.

2. I believe this is a direct swap. The console should be identical in size, shape, and mounting positions. There is enough slack in the wiring for moving the traction control button (which goes in place of the cubby). The only thing you will lose is the cubby. I thought about changing mine years ago, but I like the closing lid on mine more than the staggered cup holders. Andrew (harofreak00) can hook you up with one if you need it.

3. & 4. Pat (2003 SSEi) has done both of those. Check out the 3rd post down: http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... 91-20.html (of course, his car is nothing but pure awesomeness). He would be the best source of information for both of those. I plan to wrap my moldings in black sometime in the future.

Hopefully this helps out a little!

Thanks for the welcome and the information. I contacted Pat and got some great info on the tail light as well, so thanks for the lead. I'll be heading to the junk yard this weekend to look for a center console, but should I not find one, I'll probably contact harofreak00 eventually. And, I was able to reach the bulb but it does look like it may need to be soldered. I might just wait on that one.

Thanks again!

Some very easy lights to swap to LED lights would be the footlights, overhead lights, and the glove box light. I dont remember their part numbers, but I believe they are all festoons and the covers to them pry right off. I swapped all of mine to LED's with red LED's in the footlights and it looks really good. Really brightens up the interior.

As for the center tail light lighting up, I understand it is a pretty difficult mod, but definitely doable, and has been done.

Awesome! The lights you mentioned, do the bulbs just pop right out of a connector or do I have to do some sort of re-wiring?

Love my all LED interior. Definitely modernizes it a good bit. All the interior lights will swap no problem to LEDs. No extra wiring. Although since you are a 2000, you also have door panel lights.. Someone else will have to chime in on what bulbs those are.

IIRC, theres a post around here with every bulb number for 2000+. A little digging should bring it up and have all of the information you might need.

Dome lights: 578

Glove Box Light: 194

Map Lights (In oh *shoot* handles): 578

Foot well Lights: 194

Trunk Light: 211-2

I don't know the light off hand for the ignition lamp but if you do some searching you will find it, A member changed his to red and it looked real nice. Now if someone can come up with a method to keep the light on while the cars powered on that would be even cooler!

Are there 2 foot well lights (1 for each side), or 4, I can't seem to remember?

EDIT: Never mind, I checked after work.
