Looking for some input on replacing my speakers in the '98 Regal. It has the Concert Sound II stereo, which sounded very good...for the short life it had. It has 5 1/4's components in the front, 6x9's in the back. Both rear speakers seems to be shot, then one front speaker started rattling. Replaced it with a used OEM one I had in my stash, then it started rattling again. So....it seems I need to replace with new stuff now.
It's my work car/3rd car so I don't want to invest much money into it, but I'd like it to at least sound like it did from the factory, which had decent bass for what it was. I found some Infinity References which were well reviewed, but they look like they're 2-ohm units versus my OEM ones which I believe are 4-ohm. I'm assuming that would be a no-go. I'm aware that to save money & time, I may need to put coaxials in the front and leave the stock front tweeters disconnected.
I'm not looking to spend much money, so no amp or sub right now. It seems like some people are loosing a lot of bass with aftermarket speakers if they don't also include an amp/sub. What speakers would give me similar or better sound to OEM with no other equipment added?
*edit* I talked to Crutchfield this afternoon....they're recommending Kicker 40CS54 5 1/4's in the front and Kicker 40CS6934 6x9's in the back. Thoughts?

Re: Speaker recommendations?
I have Autotek 6x9s running in my Bonneville now and they are hooked up through the stock wiring/amp/harness and they give out great bass for the price in which I got them.

This is them and so far I am happy with them. They even have other good reviews.
Now for Kickers, my cousin actually has some in his 02 Regal hooked up directly from the radio (pushing 22 RMS per channel/50 PEAK), and the speakers can take 70 RMS and like 200 watt peak. Them sound pretty good in his car, so I imagine that they would sound better hooked up through the stock wiring/harness/and amp. Especially the 6x9s. But even with subwoofers, I have always be satisfied with Kicker products so it is a good choice/option.

Re: Speaker recommendations?
I would suggest polk but my 6x9's don't produce a lot of bass without an amp. So instead howbout some alpine S-types or the entry kenwoods. Usually they are made to be more of an all around speaker and do good for all frequencies unlike the top end speakers which are designed with a full system in mind. We have the s types in the 2500 and the hit with some pretty good bass while still having pretty good highs. IMO you will overpay for kickers and you can get just as good sound out of cheaper speakers. Check sonic electronics they have some deals going on for christmas.

Re: Speaker recommendations?
IMO kicker is known for their subs and bass right? Their speakers aren't that great for playing the highs and full ranges. I'd go with 3 way door speakers and 4 way rear speakers, and not sure the set up the Regal, but if the tweeters are how they are in the Bonne with the Bose package, its pointless, right next to the door speaker isn't going to do anything for playing your highs, you want them mounted up top away from the speaker, like above where the seat belt is would be a good spot. Personally for cheaper I'd go with pioneer, thats what I'm running right now, like 50 bucks for doors, 75 for rears and get a decent head unit if you want and it'll sound pretty good. There are point when I'll turn my subs off and I have more than enough bass and I don't amp any of my speakers. If at some point you wanna get higher end, get components and mount the tweeters up high like I said, electronic crossover, and 4 channel amp and headunit, and you'll be golden if you don't want subs, if you want subs, same set up but pre amp for the fronts, run straight to the amp, then the rears, take them to an electronic crossover to seperate the lows and fulls, that'll be your rears and subs. a cheap one is like 50 bucks from walmart and it makes a world of difference.

These would be good for the doors

These would be good for the rears
http://www.crutchfield.com/p_130X560BT/ ... ml?tp=5684
This would be good for a head unit, it keeps it simple, and if you ever to go amp your speakers and do subs, it had 3 pre amps for it already.
All this together on Crutchfield, $330 plus shipping, which in terms of stereo upgrades, its fairly cheap and is gonna give you good sound and bass with a good tune on the head unit

Re: Speaker recommendations?
checkout sonicelectronics or audiosavings. The infinity ref series are yes 2ohms but that allows the speakers to get louder easier then the typical 4ohms. I have owned many infinitys with only one set that gave me trouble but that was 10+ years ago and i beat them pretty good lol. Ive owned a few sets of 4",5.25",6.5 shallow, and bothe 2 and 3way 6x9s. Imho they have some of the best bang for the buck. Mids and highs are clear and not shrill, the bass is smooth and def has bass and also can handle extra power if ever decided to add and amp later or if ya use in another car/truck. Kicker speakers from the few ive heard can be pretty harsh and not very pleasing to listen too. Plus for the price you can always find better. Pioneer d series speakers are some of thee most under rated good speakers ive heard and heard about. But those might be a lil spendier for what your looking for.
