stereo stays on when the doors are opened

This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

stereo stays on when the doors are opened

Post by ballstatefan05 »

Hey guys ~

My stereo isn't shutting off when I open the drivers door anymore. It started doing it with the passenger door, now it has moved to my door. Any tips or suggestions? BTW..It is an aftermarket stereo.

Sounds like an installation issue, who did you have install it?

Xtreme Audio in Plainfield installed it at first. They completely jacked it up, so.......................
I had Soundsational audio here in Indy RE-install it. Very reputable place. But...due to bad struts and shocks (all fixed now) the thing has vibrated loose and rattles around in the hole. It just started doing this not shutting off issue (on the drivers side, I noticed it was doing on the passenger side first)... I'm guessing it could all be related. ? :dontknow:

I should probably just take it back to Soundsational and have them fix it..

Soundsational knows their stuff, I'd take it to them. Hopefully it won't cost you anything, if anything labor.

Hopefully it turns out well!

The only thing I didn't like about that place..he made me feel a little less worthy than his "COLTS" players and celebs that come there and spend thousands of dollars and it was a pain for them to even bother with my piddly little stereo....they are obviously good though.

Maybe it was just me.. :dontknow:

I would take it back and see if they will fix it.. How long has it been and did they give you a warranty?

I had the stereo installed in Feb of 2012. So I doubt any warranty exists. Only when my struts got real bad did it start jarring loose. I will take it back to him to tighten up and see if he can see any loose wires..

The radio should be powered by the RAP (Retained accessory power circuit). This circuit stays on and allows the power windows, sunroof, and radio to operate after the key is turned to the off position for 10 minutes or until you open the driver's door. Turn the key off and open the driver's door right away. If the power windows still work after you open the door, then the problem is a bad door switch. If the power windows are not working but the radio is, then something may have shorted out in the adaptor harness.

^^^^ Agreed. look at the door switches. part of the latch in the door IIRC.. try different doors and try the windows ect to see if they still opperate like stated above.

Mine does the same thing. Theres a little adapter box used for aftermarkets that may be faulty. All I do is turn the key back on, then off. It works on the first or second try.

If the Kenwood was wired to the original 12V radio feed that is RAP supplied, I still think it is a door sensor switch that is bad.
