So my grandpa loves his 97 PA, but it's getting pretty old and worn out, 220k, and now he's looking at this one from a local dealer:

He took it for an extended test drive and I got a chance to look it over. Overall it's a nice car, new GY Assurance Comfortreads on it. Biggest concern is the price. I know $12,500 is too much, but what do you guys think is a fair price for it?

A car with mileage like that is really hard to put a price on, pretty much whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

NADA put the clean trade in value at about $8300. I think a reasonable offer would be $9k. Do you research and find others for sale in your area and compare prices. I would check the front. It doesn't have the correct grille, and some things leave me wanting to look closer at the front.

I love these Buicks though. I know they have a reputation for being an elderly gentleman's car, but they're still one of the very few cars I'd consider trading the Bonneville for.

Yeah, I noticed that too. It's the same grille he has on his 97, but his 97 has the hood ornament. The PAU grille should have the badge.
Premium doesn't bother him, but I made it a point several times he has to run it.
He is absolutely dead-set on getting another Park Avenue. He won't even consider anything else. He scoffed at a Lucerne...

Buicks are slow... and gay, and I question the sexuality of anyone that drives one.
Seriously though, I think it's way overpriced. I wouldn't pay over 7.5k(assuming that it's essentially flawless with those kind of miles). 6.5 would be a more fair price if it's good, but not perfect/probably about what it is, but that's also probably a number that they might not like hearing. edit: Maybe 8 tops if it really is "that nice".

Park Avenues are great cars, my only concern is rust - of '00-05 era Park Ave's versus their LeSabre counterparts, they seem to rust a lot worse underneath and in the lower door areas etc., not sure why that is. Being that they're older though, I know while it's harder to find a lower mileage one, it would still be a hard pill to swallow paying over $8-9k for one.
