top swap woes tuning questions and so on
OK
i have a 2001 bonneville se.
just built a NA L36 3800II with a L67 SC 3800II top swap.
now i have a 2000 buick lesabre ultra sc pcm and my oem bonneville pcm
anyone know what i should tune the fuel and spark to ratio wise to run the higher compression engine on a stock SC pcm
and if i tried running it on a stock tune i was told i could have major complications... im really not sure what to believe as this is my first top swapped 3800 let alone my first forced induction engine. everyone tells me different things and its beginning to get confusing and im bout down to the nitty gritty here.
as the engine will soon be in and ready to go .
oh also one more thing i almost forgot... anyone have a pinout diagram for the na se bonneville pcm and a pin out for the sc 2000 lesabre ultra pcm. i have been told i only need to add one wire to my NA pcm harness for the sc boost controller now is the pcm grounding the boost solenoid or sending power>?

DO NOT SWAP THE PCM!!!
What you need is your Bonneville PCM Flashed with the L67 Engine Files and the 4T65 non HD trans files and gearing. Anyone with an HP tuner can do this for you very easily.
Where are you located?

i mean i havent plugged in the other pcm yet let alone hook up the battery... what would happen if i did though? is there vin issues? i figured there shouldn't as it isn't CANobd

Re: top swap woes tuning questions and so on
It isn't CAN, it's Class II OBD, and there will be VIN issues between the PCM and the BCM. It's the BCM that actually tells the PCM it's okay to start and keep running so long as the two share the same VIN number.
DHP tuners are finicky creatures and like to ONLY communicate with the PCM. Unplug the fuse that goes to the BCM then try to read the PCM and make your changes. Change only the engine parameters, not the transmission (different gear ratios between the L36 and the L67 from the factory). Biggest ones to change are timing, fuel maps, and air flow. HP Tuner guys like to halve the response time and double the sense time on KR since those tables are WAY conservative from the factory, and it cuts out much of the false knock...BUT...scan to see if you need to do this first.
Compression ratios are the same between the two.

DHP sucks that is why it didn't work.
there are a ton of 3800 guys in and around flint that can tune the car with HP tuners

Re: top swap woes tuning questions and so on
when i flash my PCM with DHP i have had it crash a couple times.. not sure if its my laptop or something lost com. I now only flash mine with a battery charger hooked to the Battery and all my radio/lights turned off.. i havnt had to pull a fuse yet and it seems to flash perfect every time now. LOL toasted 4 pcm's if you count my Turbo Monte i had. good thing the PCM is easy to get from the JY.
What exactly does the message say when it wont flash... are you doing AUTO, Partial or Full write? are you using your cars Vin or PCM Vin? are you able to read the PCM Bin file that is in there now or the one you are flashing to the PCM?
If you swap in another cars PCM.. After the flash you will need to relearn the security..
* Key in ign to on (engine off) for 30min or untill the Security light goes off
* Ignition off
* repeat 2 more time... key is programed and car will run
****Tip****
If you edit security settings in the PCM you can set the time required from 30 min to 1 min and you will relearn the security in 3min

Re: top swap woes tuning questions and so on
ALSO IGN 3 relay kicks off when trying to start.
and I tried the other pcm as i called a friend that works in a dealer ship and he said i would just have to do the 10 min key on relearn and it didnt work when i swapped it or when i swapped back to the oem. also the prnd lights dont go amber as i shift through the gears. ive unplugged and cleaned the connector to the trans but it still dont show up. did i lock out my car? but the security light went off after the 10 min re learn and shuts off after a few seconds when ignition is on run

Re: top swap woes tuning questions and so on
the STOCK pcm will start the car. I swapped a 00 SE with an SSEi Engine and Trans. The original PCM started and ran the car, but not real well With a Proper Tune, everything was like it came that way from the factory.
I still would use the STOCK PCM, with a proper tune. It sounds like the trans is not communicating with the PCM being the shifter indicators are not illuminated, and will not start because the PCM dosent know what gear the car is in.

Re: top swap woes tuning questions and so on
ok but why wont the fuel pump prime?
once the other pcm didnt work i swapped back to the oem pcm and tried for hours to get it to prime fuel, pulse injectors, or turn over even. both pcms show same symptoms at this point.
NO I HAVENT FIGURED IT OUT.
Quite frustrated with the car at this point.
Something isnt allowing it to start.
OK so since i swapped pcms could i have locked the system out?
i did the pass key relearn thing where you leave the key on for 10 mins then off for 10 seconds n then back on again.
i did not do it 3 times in a row though
security light now shuts off when the key is on in run position for a few seconds.
now heres the issues:
1. fuel pump dont prime
2.engine will not turn over
3. gauges do not sweep upon turning ignition to run but do after i try starting it.
4. no shifter/selector gear indicatior light saying what gear car is in on the gauge cluster.
5. injectors do not pulse
i do know theres a grounding issue at this time as the starter will not turn unless i put jumper cable from engine to chassis ground. even then the park/gear indicator lamps do not light up.
i will begin removing and cleaning the grounds and adding more just for reassurance.
NOW I DID COMPLETELY REMOVE THE ABS MODULE.
IT recently dawned on me that years ago i unplugged the abs module and for some reason i had to plug it back in... I DONT REMEMBER WHY but im wondering if it may be the cause of atleast the fuel and ignition issues... some sort of failsafe? if abs is bad car wont work? idk
this is my only car and i need it running asap.
