I'm interested in putting an auxiliary input in my 03 Bonneville.
I have the standard factory (Delco) radio that has the single CD slot and a tape slot. I don't have an Aux button on my current radio. I have a CD/Tape button. I also don't seem to have XM radio or a button for it.
I've seen what some have down in the other posts and I REALLY like when someone put an aux jack in the cigarette ash tray...but that is not what's important...I'd take even a cable running from somewhere.
I'm looking to keep the function of the CD player and Tape player but also having this Aux jack/port somewhere to plug my iphone into so I can listen to music. Is this possible?
How would I go about doing this?
I've looked up options on the internet and someone said you can put some sort of box in that plugs into a cd changer harness in the rear of the car (not sure if I have a cd changer harness since I don't have a cd changer OR an auxiliary button on the radio)
I AM willing (if needed) to change out the radio to one of the similar radios that just has the cd player and no tape deck (this has a cd/aux button). But it would be nice to not have to do this. Not sure what the "aux" actually controls on those radios in those cars.
Thanks for your help in advance!

Re: 2003 Aux Input advice
Are you okay with just a auxiliary casette tape? I ran one for years and they sound light years better than any FM transmitter.

Is this what you are referring to? If so, I will check that out. That may be an easy solution. It isn't so "integral" but maybe not a big deal if it is easy.
I thought about getting this as well (which would allow hands free calling)

Re: 2003 Aux Input advice
Either will work. The second device is an FM modulator but also gives you hands free Bluetooth. You can also try to use the aux input at the dock and lock harness, there are 3 wires A9, A10, and A11 that are common, left + and right + for the aux input - you can try hooking up an audio jack to these 3 wires and put an audio signal through, then press the band or CD button to see if it picks up the signal. This may not work. If you use the cassette adaptor, you have to disable the tight/loose tape sensing feature. See your owner's manual for how to do this.

Re: 2003 Aux Input advice
Has anyone tried the iSimple IS77 Tranzit?
Not sure if I'm missing anything here but looks like you can put it somewhere behind the center console and you plug it into the antenna port in the back of your radio...then the car antenna you just removed from your radio goes into the IS77. Looks like you may have to tap into the cigarette lighter for power. But then you can have the aux input for the iphone/ipod. The thing is you need to find a place for the switch and the 3.5 mm input that looks nice. I think all you need to do then is just program one of the numbered buttons to be on the correct FM station.
Wondering if this would work. I wouldn't mind making something custom in the ash tray for the power switch and 3.5 input...

I recently bought this one off of amazon and it works great! The sound is as good as a CD in my opinion and it's really quiet. (you can't hear it turning and rattling while it plays) I think its reasonably priced too. To disable the tight/loose sensing feature you turn off the radio, then press and hold the CD/Tape button until it reads "Ready" This takes about 3-5 secs. Once you see that turn the radio back on and play the cassette to enjoy your music.

Re: 2003 Aux Input advice
The FM route does work. More than likely the sound quality won't be the greatest though. My SE had a Pioneer XM unit when I bought it and it's connected through the antenna. Sound isn't quite as good as the radio and not nearly as good as the CD.chisox.fan wrote: Wondering if this would work.
