2005 GXP

Post by 94SilverSSEi »

Picked up another Bonneville I just couldn't pass it up.

2005 Bonneville GXP
122k miles
Fully loaded minus the HUD

Has one little dent on the hood with a little scuff but otherwise very clean!

There is this squeaking, rattle when turning. Im assuming its the ISS.

That Northstar is amazing, it even breaks the summer tires loose with traction control on.
Every time you step on the gas, its crying for a Corsa

Didn't really have the money for it so had to take a loan for it but I couldn't pass it up for the price.
I would love to keep it but not sure I will be able to.

And heres the kicker, its got aftermarket rims with summer tires (prolly 60% tread).

And the stock GXP rims (have a little light curb rash) with Blizzaks (prolly 60% tread as well).

Bluebook says $7500 in good condition, $8100 excellent condition. I was surprised, those values seemed high (thats a good thing though :) )

Was just curious what you guys thought the car was worth and what the stock rims and blizzaks were worth. (I couldn't find a set of GXP rims for sale anywhere to compare them too, only ones I could find was a set with junk tires for $650)

And yes pics will follow :P

You probably wouldn't believe me, if I told you what I got it for.

To say it was a steal would be an understatement. The lady got a new car and just wanted this one gone.

Love this car already and only had it one day.

It kind of scares me though, knowing all the stuff that "could" go wrong with it. (Speaking from experience with our other 2000+ bonnevilles)

Amazing car for the price, but honestly you should flip it before you run into the N* headaches.

I'd keep it. Not like you have no other car to drive if this one needs work.
Like I said when you texted me (yes I knew about this a while ago) I'm mildly jealous of it. Looks like a clean car and a great deal.

Jeez you more northern guys get all the deals. Everything down here is overpriced and beat to crap and back, and the stuff that's in good shape is ungodly priced.

Great find though, nice looking ride!

I was going to say, if you got it for anything more than $4-5000, you should have imported mine. But at $2750, win!

I was seriously considering this when you still had the corsa on it, but figured the importing might be a little hassle, not sure what's involved.

Due diligence pays out in the end. I search craigslist everyday for an hour or so, so you are bound to find something eventually.

I LOVE the car, Northstar is amazing! With the tires it has, I can barely get it to break traction and once you hit second gear, you're gone! Gotta be careful.

Honestly I love the car, it only has a couple minor issues that could be cleaned up. As much as I would like to keep it though, I think Andrew has a point. Just asking for trouble in the future by keeping it.

On the upside: It doesn't leak anything.
But....engine light came on today when I took it for a drive. Hope its something stupid or simple.

From a driving perspective, yes, the GXP is a nice machine. A V8, with a V8 soundtrack is hard to NOT like, but wait until you have to work on it. ;)

On a side note, I think those aftermarket wheels, well... SUCK! Why must people take the really good looking 5 spoke GXP wheels and replace them? I know we may all have a difference of opinion, but the stock GXP wheels on this car are one of the better looking OEM one over the past few years, so I don't get it.

I too search CL daily, but more so now as I'm looking to buy a plow for the 'Burb and now is the time to buy. I think I found one, complete, unfortunately it's an older Unimount, but hey...

Thats what I'm afraid of, just looking at that engine bay in person, that Northstar goes from radiator to firewall.

I didn't think the rims were half bad, especially being black. But I do have the stock rims with Blizzaks as well. Not sure if I would sell them with the car??

They're are a hot commodity, so I would keep them and sell them at a later date if need be. Any GM car I look at, I usually have two options of wheels I would like to put on them, the SS/ZR1 style wheels used on late C4 Corvette's and Camaro's (I had a set on mine in the 17" size), or these 18" GXP wheels. A close second to the Bonneville GXP wheels, would be the Grand Prix GXP wheels or the Impala SS versions (like I have on ours).

Now you see my analogy... Size 10 engine in a size 5 dress...

Seeing a picture is one thing, it looks like a nice car. But actually owning one, the car handles amazingly well, as well as the horsepower  (Might have some trouble if I kept it.) I'm comparing this to other cars I've owned or driven and this is the best/nicest car I've ever had.

I can take corners at 60mph in the GXP that I'd be pushing it at 30mph in my SLE.

That Northstar is HUGE in person. I feel like an idiot but is there a dipstick for the trans? Or is the dipstick the little screw cap (says trans fluid) that is underneath about 4,000 wires and vacuum hoses?

That's the one. Sleeved arm and gloved hand go a long way to checking that when hot. It's not that bad unless you have sausage fingers or use steroids.

The long way around solution - a fender well intake makes that space wide open

Yes and no, on the dipstick thing.

No, it's not the standard, red flip handled one with a long, stick like normal GM's.
Yes, if you look under the airbox, you may have to remove it (I don't recall), or use Repins method, there is a little twist cap, that has a small dipstick. This is where you check/fill it. Yea, a CAI helps this be an easier task.

Haha. I found this out the hard way. i.e. Hot radiator hose

So I just left it alone, was just curious to see what fluid looked like and it just had that little cap.
