Be honest with me.

This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

Ported box will give you bigger deeper bass.. being in the trunk you wont hear the fluttery sound from the air moving out the port.. Not to mention you can run a lower power amp (the sub doesnt have to work as hard to move like in a sealed box). Sealed boxed usually will be smaller then a ported box to make optimal sound levels. each sub is differnt tho.. i had a pioneer sub that was recommended in a sealed box.. never hit hard or deep in a Spec sized box.. put into a vented box and BOOM she pounded...

Larger Vent-Ported box (~2-2.5 cu/ft) is what i would recommend especially if you are running a single sub and a 300-500 watt RMS amp.

Ported boxes are "Tuned" already for different freq. Port size and length will effect the SPL (sound pressure level... How loud it gets) and output Freq. most production boxed will be tuned for good low and mid freq. to give you good SPL. Being in a trunk of a car SQ isnt as much of a concern as in a open hatch/suv.. cause you wont hear most of that anyway.

Good Luck

Being in the trunk doesn't mean you won't hear a SQ style setup well...

Generally speaking, a lower tuned box fixes roll-off that all subs will have at lower frequencies. It helps flatten frequency response out from the LPF down to the bottom end of the sub.

My 12 in the car is tuned to about 28hz. The subs I was going to build for my theater would have had selectable tunes of 13, 22 and 30hz in 24" spnotube 6ftv tall with fi car audio q18 drivers.

I need to get an amp so I can build the cars subwoofer, that PVC I have makes a great enclosure, it is heavy though

At least it wasn't for doing 12 over in a bright orange/red Trans-Am in the middle of town...

Police aren't liking me tonight. Alright Bass Boost, we've been good friends, but it's time I turn you down.
