Window regulators.... cheap brand works just as well?

Post by MrJiggy716 »

I need two new rear window regulators with motors. Pep boys wanted 480, my mechanic 390 and my window guy 400. The window guy said to order them online and it will save a bunch of cash, and he could install them both for $65.00. I checked online and I found a set for 114.00. He said the made in Taiwan ones get a bad rep but the ones he installed have lasted just as long as the OEM ones. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance...

Here are the ones i'm considering...

I would try Rock Auto or even PM resident Bonneville B.A. <a href="http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... freak00</a> first.

I had a rear go out (just regulator) this past winter and got one from them pretty wuick and had it installed. total cost for it all was $80.

here's a link to Rock Auto catalog and parts

I had a regulator/motor unit from 1aauto go bad once (cable/spool), they replaced it under warranty but, I still had to go through the whole ordeal of changing it again for a second time. When my next one goes, I think I'm going to try the ones that Dorman is selling. They're more $$$ but I have a feeling that they're better quality too. Tip: Pay close attention to how the plastic water barrier is sealed up or you'll have standing water in your floor areas.

I put a Dorman in and had no problems. I put a cheapie in on my previous 2000 SLE and also had no problems. The motors are a little slower (that's probably who so cheap) but you can easily swap your OEM motor onto the new regulator before installing it.

I bought 3 from that on line auction site at about $45.00 each. They were Taiwanese and two fit perfectly, the other needed a small mod. Did it myself watching You Tube video and all worked fine. That was about 18 months ago, they still work just fine. They can't be much worse than the originals. Those should have been a recall!

I just purchased a set of back regulators with motors from 1A Auto (cheapest prices new that I found online) . I get them tomorrow and am having them installed by my window guy. So we shall see how they hold up....
