Intermitten ABS light.

Post by SSEBonne4evr »

I still get the ABS light occasionally at start up.
Stop the car re-start and its gone.
Then two weeks of driving and no light.
Anyone know if I can read any stored codes.

To read ABS codes, you have to go to the dealership or a mechanic, as the free code readers at Autozone, etc. don't have access to them.

A tech II at a dealer should be able to read the stored codes. I think they erase after something like 50 key cycles, but I could be off on that.

Usually the ABS light is caused by a wheel speed sensor, a bad wheel hub, or the actual ABS unit going out. The only way to know for certain is to get it scanned. My LeSabre has an intermittent ABS light as well, and I've never bothered to get it looked at. The hubs are good and I've physically checked them, and I honestly like the way my car stops without ABS when the light is on, so I figure if I lose ABS it's not a big deal to me.

I had the same problem. Intermittent ABS light, and ABS activation for no real reason. When I put my 94 SE on the lift to change the struts, I noticed my LF wheel move a bit as it left the ground. Once in the air, I grabbed the tire top and bottom, and gave a good shake. I had almost 2 inches of movement! LF wheel bearing (factory original) was SHOT! No noise, no warning whatsoever. But that LF appeared to be about to leave the car sometime soon.

I am used to a growling noise when bearings go bad, and I always pay attention to noises while driving. I heard NOTHING!

Check your wheel/hub bearings.

Thanks for the replies, was going to leave it alone as it has been doing it for more than a yr.

But I think I'll check those wheel bearings and electrical connectors.
