rochester 2 barrel card choke issue

Post by Night Crawler »

On my 67 parisienne, when I set the choke, the flap doesn't close. I had the carb cleaned and rebuilt a couple months ago and it has been fine up until saturday. Noticed when i was driving that the gas pedal would only go down half way unless i really pushed on it.

So i went under the hood, removed the air box and found out that the lever at the top of the carb only moves a bit unless some force is applied, then it moves all the way and also stated above, the choke flap won't close unless (while engine is off) I open the throttle all the way then pull up on the arm that is attached to the choke flap closest to the throttle arms.

figured it out, it's the fuel plunger. the one that came with the rebuild kit fell apart.

Night Crawler - I had similiar problem with a 2GC from a 1962 Impala. The accelerator pump lip seal had come off. Problem caused by no spring behind the lip seal (which was a blue material). In kit that I bought - you are supposed to take spring off the old accelerator pump and put it onto the new one. The spring is what holds the lip seal onto the shaft. The lip seal had gotten sucked off and it jammed everything up. Either that - or it was forgotten when the kit was assembled. I just used the old accelerator pump - it was made of same blue material - and it worked just fine. Have rebuilt several 2GC's and NEVER had this problem before. Check it out!!!
