HUD brightness
Is there any way to improve the HUD brightness.
My old 1995 Grand Prix had the HUD and was bright, and my sons 2006 Grand Prix w/HUD is very bright.
I can see mine, but even at the highest setting, it is nowhere near as bright as these other two cars.
But then again, maybe this is as good as the HUDs work in the Bonneville.
Any tips on modding this?

Re: HUD brightness
Something is wrong...I keep mine at the lowest setting and I can still see it fine...I think I have an extra switch...

Re: HUD brightness
Yea, mine was really bright too. I think the only time it got washed out was in extremely bright direct sunlight.
One of two things is my guess Leon;
1) The HUD unit/projector is wearing out
2) Not the proper HUD reflective windshield. Meaning the windshield has been replaced.

Re: HUD brightness
All of ours are marginal at best during the day. Could be age, could be how the Bonneville's units were.
Bye Bye:

Re: HUD brightness
Over time, some owners complain that the brightness goes down on their HUD. This happened to my '02 and it was replaced under warranty. Now it is happening again 5 years later. There is a fix that I found on another forum. It involves removing the HUD unit from the dash and resoldering 2 connections for the photocell to the board. The instructions for removing the HUD are from a Grand Prix, so you will need to use dash disassembly instructions for the Bonneville. Re: HUD brightness
My HUD is very dim when the sun is out. The brighter the sun, the dimmer it gets. Having come from a Grand Prix with the HUD, I've experienced this before and successfully fixed it by resoldering the photocell. It looks like it'll be a bitch to remove the HUD from the Bonneville, but I fully intend to do it soon. I've had the ENTIRE dash out of the Grand Prix, so bring it on.

Re: HUD brightness
Cause being high resistance possibly from a bad connection?

Re: HUD brightness
Today I noticed mine fading in and out regardless of how much light was hitting it. That's classic cold solder on the photo cell. You need a nice hot iron to do it right. I know because I had to do the grand prix twice. The 2nd time lasted until I sold it, which was a few years.
