my bonnevile

Post by ripetomatoes »

This is what i recently got, and what sparked my interest in Bonnevilles. She's a little rough, but with some love, and time, she'll look great. I bought her non-running for $350, and after a run to pull-a-part, she now runs and drives great!!!

The previous owner screwed a few things up trying to fix her, but that's Ok. that just means i get to get my hands dirty. :bwoohoo:

This was the reason she wasn't running - Previous owner tried to mash it in the hole.

So, as for now, the only thing she needs is a few speakers, a new key cylinder, and a new set of keys.

As for my dad, he wasn't too supportive of me getting the Bonneville, wich i have named "the sled" but, it was love at first sight.

Looks like a good place to start the Bonneville hobby. Those older (pre series 1) 3800 V6 engines never quit. My 1988 Delta 88 went to 337k.

Good luck!

Not too bad! I love these body style Bonnevilles, I have about a 20 year history with a black 89 LE. Should be easy enough to get it nice again. They don't ever die. Ours still is running with the guy we sold it to.

for what she is, she's a great car. drives great, and handles great. I was told by the previous owner today that he never changed the brakes in the five years that he had her, so i popped off the wheels a few minutes ago to find a sweet set of high-end ceramics. It looks like i won't have to buy brakes for a while either, they still have about 75% left on them. as for the few things that need to be fixed, i need to drop the gas tank and fix the float (even with the gas tank completely empty, it reads full) speakers, tires, and the wheel has some vertical wobble to it.

I'm afraid i have some bad news... I took the bonneville to the store earlier, and on the way back, the transmission dropped a gear at high rpm, caused the water pump to fracture, or the seal to burst, and soaked the serpentine belt enough to slip it off. I don't have any idea what i'm going to have to do to fix this at this point, but i do know that pushing a bonneville 3 miles is rough work. pics and video will come tomorrow
