P0404 EGR Valve
P0404 EGR Valve
Hello all, I am getting a p0404 code.this pertains to the egr valve. My question is, is this common for the valves to go bad? Do you think I could just clean it? These are fairly expensive to replace. Any input is appreciated.

Re: P0404 EGR Valve
You can try cleaning it first, otherwise I sell them for $30 for a good used one.

Re: P0404 EGR Valve
If I take the egr valve off and spray PB Blaster or some sort of solvent into the bottom and let it sit, will it ruin any other part of it?
Harofreak, if my cleaning does not work, I will order a used one next week. I am working on two different vehicles right now and am getting real tired of running to parts store to get codes read. I am ordering this today, and hopefully This will be adequate for my use and I can get some things fixed around here.

P.S. Is there a way that the EGR valve can be tested?

Re: P0404 EGR Valve
The Tech II scanner the dealer has can cycle it and see if the valve is actually doing what it needs to, but no you can't really test them yourself. Cleaning them is best done with carburetor cleaner, and be sure to replace the gasket.
