HIDs LEDs and Remote Start
Hello All,
I just bought my first Bonneville. It is a 2003 SSEI with 140k.
I am looking to put in HID headlights. Does anybody know of a good place to get these? What are the part numbers for the hi/lo headlights and fog lights so i can try to find hid replacements for these.
I am also looking to replaced the interior bulbs and license plate bulbs with LED bulbs. does anybody know the part number for those bulbs so i can find replacements?
Last, i would like to install a remote start system for the winter. Has anybody done this and if so, what brands would you recommend?
Thanks for the help guys.

Re: HIDs LEDs and Remote Start
Searching would do a lot of good. There have been a lot of posts on these lines lately. The just is that hid kits are rubbish and I will personally ridicule you for buying one. As for the led stuff, I am not aware of any pnp led systems that actually work. Reason being the vastly different way LEDs produce light compared to a filiment bulb.
Basically, hid or led, the only way to do eitheron these cars is to do a custom retrofit.
I looked into viper remote start/alarm systems and I'm pretty sure they're about the best. Absolute headache to instal though.
Welcome to the club, hope I didn't scare you off. Lol.

Is the electical system that much different from a 2004 chevy silverado? I have a 04 duramax and i have both hid headlights and led interior bulbs in it. Both were just plug in replacements.
Is there something different about this car that i am not aware of? I guess i just assumed that since it was around the same year of a GM product, i figured it would be pretty similar.

Re: HIDs LEDs and Remote Start
No, ecectrically these items will function but there is a growing group who detest plug and play hid setups. Especially in trucks.
In order to make hid ligting work properly and not incur the wrath of my highbeams on the road, one must use projectors to get the light where it belongs instead of flying out of a reflector in every which direction. This is both as a courtesy to other road users and a service to yourself to avoid the drawbacks of shoddy hid kits.
With LEDs, yes, OBP bilulbs will light up, but most aren't really set up to emit light where it needs to go. For a dome light, probably no biggie, but marker lights and other exterior lights need to be better thought out that that.
You also may run into issues with the fade in and fade out of the interior lights. I'm guessing some flickering will occur.

Re: HIDs LEDs and Remote Start
I hate PnP HID's in everything, especially trucks, especially when I'm in a car. The way the stock Halogen reflector scatters the light is blinding, and the morons that put in 10,000k HID's only hurt themselves and others. There is NO benefit to putting an HID in a halogen reflector other than "the look". You're hurting actual light output, no matter the color.bigdaddy1385 wrote:Is the electical system that much different from a 2004 chevy silverado? Some people have put LED's in the interior. All you need to do is look in the owner's manual for the interior bulbs numbers....

Vipers are very nice starters and alarms. They are pretty hard to install on a new car but pretty straight forward on older cars such as a Bonneville, unless one has already been put in and taken out. I am going to be getting one in our Flex here pretty quick.

Re: HIDs LEDs and Remote Start
Has anyone found a Halo headlight assembly for a Bonneville? I see they make many different kinds for Grand Prix's, but trying to find one for my 2000 Bonneville is a pain in the butt. I've seen videos on youtube on how to make your own, but I really don't feel like destroying my stock headlight assembly's and accidentally screwing up. And I want to find Halo fog lights, but that seems to be impossible too. I don't know why, but I just love how they look. My friend has them on his Grand AM, but I'm not selling my Bonneville just to get some sweet headlights on my car.

Someone else might have some time to find pics of my car. I built halo fog lights with projectors. Anything you do with the lighting on these cars is going to be an entirely custom affair.

Re: HIDs LEDs and Remote Start
I have seen some angel eye fog lights at autozone, but I'm not sure how they would bolt up to the car. They have Halo's and HID's all in one, and come with that slight blue tint. I think I will go take a look at them tomorrow and get some more detail on them. If you could give me some pointers on stuff @yourgrandma, that would be appreciated. I have electrical knowledge, its just the application to automotives is what I suck at. lol.

Re: HIDs LEDs and Remote Start
I think maybe youre looking at this backwards. Halos, angel eyes, whatever... are an add on. They shouldnt be th main goal of a lighting setup. I did mine to fill the extra space left by doing a projector foglight retrofit.

I will go to autozone today and take pictures of what the fogs are. I'm pretty sure on the box it says that its a universal all in one, you just have to mount it and wire it up.

Re: HIDs LEDs and Remote Start
Hey guys, I'm curious if you've gone any further with your modifications.
@yourgrandma, are the fogs you have installed a complete retrofit or did you purchase projector fogs and design your own rings to put around them? And do you know anything about the SmartStart feature offered by Viper? I'm considering getting that for myself because I work in a factory and I'm pretty sure that's the only way I'll be able to get a signal far enough to start my car from in the plant. Haha.
@terrancew3, What ever happened to those pics you were going to post? And did you go with those?

Re: HIDs LEDs and Remote Start
I have them posted in a different thread I made. I'm not sure how to post a link it on here, but this is the subject: "Questions on some lights". Its in the detailing and appearance forum. Turns out they were a little smaller, so I never picked them up. As for the halo's that yourgrandma has, I want the same things but don't know where to start with them. I love the halo look.natedawg061987 wrote:Hey guys, I'm curious if you've gone any further with your modifications.
