I Bought Bonnie IV today!!! (pics added 12-14-12)

Post by Djkthegame »

Bought a Black 91 LE today as a parts car (no pics yet wont pick up til next friday 12-14). I am planning on taking what i need which will be the front headlights, hood, grille, header panel, fenders, front bumper cover, and front windshield. Car has 122,000 miles car runs as far as i know, the only prob i know of as of now is a spun harmonic balancer. Most likely the engine and trans will be for sale. So once i get the car and get situated i plan on selling off what i dont need so any one in the 87-91 yr range might want to make a wish list. I will post pics once i have the car.

i picked her up and brought her home today. she starts and drives quite well. engine and trans have 122k both work (engine needs harmonic balancer only) my mechanics looked at it. i verified it is a 91 i actually got the origanal title the car was bought brand new back in 91 so technically i am the 2nd owner since the yard i got it from never re-titled it when they got it in july 2010. im assuming the original owner probably junked it when the balanced went thinking the engine was gone. this was an LE models so no power windows, locks, or pwr seats. to be honest with you guys if someone had scooped her up 2.5 years ago she would still be on the road today but now the underside is a disaster as you will see further down the rear sway bar on the driver side is hanging down and all the underneath lines are shot. we broke the fuel line just lifting the car up. the gas tank is on the verge of rusting thru. as well as various rust holes in the floor and by the front subframe.

i will start with the exterior pics first

That car is almost an exact twin to the 89 LE I learned how to drive in, actually I spent my whole young life in that car, from the day I was born. It was a black/gray LE with the full cluster but pretty much no other options. It was a weird bag of tricks. I think it may have had the performance and handling suspension too IIRC. I miss it. :sadeyz: You got a decent deal for a parts car I'd say.

i put some fresh gas in it when i got it home and after i let it idle for a while she smoothed out really nice. i did get to go take her out for a nice 20 min drive up and down an empty block long parking lot and then for a ride out in traffic and when u got the rpms up and the balancer quited a bit i was surprised how good it sounded and that the trans was shifting fine too. i want to get the balancer done and see how it runs before the under body falls apart. my little road test was before i had seen it up in the air and looked at the bottom. so i took it up to the shop so i could get a look underneath and one of the fuel lines popped when we lifted it up. so its sitting at the shop and were gonna put a hose in where the line popped so i can get it back home its only a few blocks away. then i get to strip the thing down and i have no idea what im gonna be in for. but im gonna salvage what i can, cut up and scrap the rest. may her sacrifice keep other 87-91's from suffering the same fate.

* i will start a thread in the appropriate section when im ready to start getting rid of parts this is my first strip down job so i dont want to start promising parts to ppl and have them waiting
