Well, that's kind of a bummer on parts. I'm not too worried about the body panels as I plan not too (crossing fingers) have any (major at least) damage done to the body.
I guess it can't hurt to order a few spare maintenance items, just in case.
This might be another reason for me to not use the sunroof. Since the one in my Bonneville broke 2 weeks after I got it, and the trouble I'm having finding a working replacement, I don't think I even want to use it in the G8 (I tested it at the dealership, and once after, but that's it). Of course, this is if the Aussie's build a better sunroof than wherever GM got or had theirs made.

GM doesn't make sunroofs. They source it from outside companies, the same as any other part. So it's longevity/quality is based on those companies, not always necessarily GM and their penny pinching ways. In this case, it's probably Valeo or Webasto made sunroof. I wouldn't NOT enjoy it now (or any other feature you bought on a vehicle), because you're concerned about breaking it.

I know it doesn't help you much, but the sunroof in my parent's Enclave and the one in my Malibu are top notch and used often with no problems or any signs of failure at all. I'd use it with confidence.

Yeah, I wasn't actually saying that it was actually GM being cheap about the part, just unhappy that it broke the first time I used it, and it helped play a part in the monumental flooding in the floor of the Bonneville. Still working on getting a replacement - has to be local, as shipping those things tends to turn out bad.
Even with the QC issues in the Bonneville, I still love it and plan the same with the G8. Well, I'll give the sunroof another chance.

The biggest thing with the moonroofs and sunroofs is to keep the moving parts lubricated. The original one in the Chicken broke and Andrew shipped me the one from Ed's car. When I disassembled the broken one, you could see it had 8 years of use and was dry as a bone. The plastic parts were all rubbed and scored.

If I can get a replacement for the Bonneville, the first thing I'll do is lube up all the moving parts. Dumb question, but how exactly would I do that for a sunroof that is already installed? Would removal of headliner and/or sunroof be required? I'm just wondering as that is something I'm not comfortable doing on the G8, yet (still learning the ins and outs of this car).
Anyway, in other news, I wanted to take it out for the weekend, but the rains stopped that from happening. I'm not wanting to take it out in the rain just yet. Also, this week looks like it's out of the question. With the hurricane approaching (predicted 60mph sustained winds for the area for up to 36 hours), I don't want this car anywhere near any trees (and right now, it isn't).
I think it was a bad idea for me to buy a car like this so close to the winter season.

Got to take the G8 out this weekend and enjoy the nice weather we had. The time I get to spend in that car never feels long enough. Didn't take any new pics (except the one below) because my camera's battery was dead, and I kept forgetting to charge it.
Anyway, got my plates last week:

Props to anyone who recognizes the reference (which goes along with the window decals). I know Mr. Booze will recognize it instantly.
And for any of those wondering, first mods are planned for Spring. More than likely just intake and exhaust to start. I just don't know what I'm going with yet.

The black GT I test drove last weekend had such a system installed. The L76 wasn't as much of a screamer as the DOHC Northstar, but it definitely made for a smooth, drone-free ride with the classic Chevy V8 sound. It'll cost you, though.

Yeah, I think I'm pretty set on the Rotofab intake, but exhaust is where I'm stuck. Because I didn't have this problem for either the LeSabre or the Bonneville, it kind of feels strange to have some many choices now.
I haven't decided whether or not I want to go full exhaust (cats to tips) or keep it simple by sticking with axle-backs. I have looked at Corsa, Magnaflow, and SOLO, and at this particular moment, I'm not worrying about cost (I say that now, though, ha). I want something that will give the exhaust a great, louder tone, without being obnoxiously loud (which is seems each these options provide a nice tone).
I have to at least Spring to make up my mind, as I should have some by then.

How's the drone? The Corsa-equipped GT I drove made some noticable sounds when AFM cuts in and out (from what I could tell), but not loud enough to be annoying. Whisper quiet at steady state cruise still.

Not putting it away yet, though - it's 60 and sunny today, and will continue to be nice for the whole week. Once winter gets here in this part of Ohio, that's when this goes into storage. Until then, however, I'm going to keep having fun with it.
