92 bonneville dieing while driving

Post by Joshuabonnie »

Hey really need some advice on this one

My sons 92 Bonneville SE shut down on him the other day while driving at normal speeds 45 mph. He coasted to the side of the road and it would not restart right away but finally it did but that only lasted a few miles and shut down again then would not restart so he had it towed home. Ever since then it has restarted no problem but it is idling rougher than I would like. So here is what has been down on the car since we got it last year.

coolant flush
Tune up
Idle air valve replaced
ball joints replaced
cam sensor replaced
oil pressure sensor replaced
fuel filter replaced

Things I have tested so far for problem MAF (checked good) battery ground , coded (got a 41 and 41) Figured the 42 was due to VATS issue (which is ongoing with this car). I am going to check fuel pressure but it seems to be fine since it starts for me all the time even after warm up. Any help or test I can run would be apperciated, I am planning on trying to test coils and ICM but not sure i have the right tools.

Thanks for any help

Sounds like the crank sensor. A very common heat related failure.

I agree, this does sound like a bad crank sensor... That would be next on my list..
