Question regarding tires for 2005 SLE...Advice needed!!!

Post by wwade2 »

The car calls for 235/55/17 size tires. I currently own a set of 235/50/17 Cooper tires that are brand new. Can I install the 235/50 tires on my SLE?

I would say yes, but let the experts chime in. The 50's are just slightly smaller in profile (sidewall dimension). I should think that is not a significant difference.

Yes they will fit, but they will be .8 too small.

Yes . But your wheel is smaller . So your wheels will be turning slighty faster say at 60 MPH than the 235/55/17 would be .

So, With 235/50/17 yours speedo will say your going like 61-62 MPH when your really going 60 MPH .

might affect your fuel tables for Avg MPG in your Car info , Because all of thoose MPG tables where based on 235/55/17 tires installed .

But won't affect overall MPG

And they will look goofy, IMO. These cars don't look good with not much rubber between the rim and fender.

They'll mount just fine, but in addition to speedometer error, they'll look like rubber bands on your rims. Andrew (harofreak00) tried it once, and it looked ridiculous.

Throw your 235/50's up on craigslist and put that towards a proper set of 235/55's.
