2002 front door seals leak!

Post by 66bonnevillechris »

I bought a 2002 low mileage bonne in March. The rear floor pans have gotten wet several times now. The leak is in the front door seals. I have sat in vehicle during a rain storm and watched water flow over the door seal and onto the carpet. When the doors are opened, i can see the water which has passed between the door and the seal.

How do I fix this...order new door seals? Are there better aftermarket seals available?

Thanks!

I fixed mine by rolling the window down, putting a knee in the middle of the door panel, and tweaking the door frames closer to the body. Havent had a leak since.

You may have to look at the water deflectors on the inside of the door. When they leak, they send water into the interior in the way that you describe. Have a look at this: http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... 11064.html

If this leak is the culprit, I highly suggest using the method that Darcy wrote about, with the butyl tape and all. Patching it up with silicone (or similar) tends to not last.

Has your car ever been in an accident? I would try the above first, but your door may need to be re-adjusted as well. An easy trick is to put a piece of paper (dollar bill works great) folded over between the door and the seal and see where the spots are where it's not sealing. That will help determine if it's a bad seal or bent door.
