Car dies out at random

Post by RexCaron »

I have a 1994 bonneville se with 162,000 miles and it runs great, except when it dies. I can be driving it here in town and it will just die at random. wont stumble or anything. dies and starts right back up like nothing happened. doesnt seem to do this when your driving it on the highway. has done it once but not ever agin since then. If anyone has any suggestions as to why this is happening i'd love to hear everyones opinon. Thanks

If it's never had the crank sensor changed, that's what I would suspect.

Both you guys-clean your battery cables, peeling back the insulation at both ends, or replace them. This is a problem we see here time after time.

Thanks for the tips. New crank sensor seems to have done the trick. drove around town for about 20 min and it didnt die. Befor it would have died 4 or 5 times so i say problem solved. Thanks alot

Have any trouble getting the balancer off, or did you pay a mechanic?

Mine would do the same thing, most of the time if i gave it a second it would start back up, but one time i was in the fast lane and it happen and it took a while to start back up, I got a 94 Bonneville and no one could find out why it did this only thing that I could think of and the dealer was fuel so I had my fuel pump changed out, haven't had the problem since. Also Check your hoses on the fuel rail one of mine was cracked and i hope that wasn't the real problem because the dealer fixed that for free.... Also my car only had 69k on it when this happen, also when Im going 50mph my car kinda feels like it loses power and i have to really go on the gas to pick up speed anyone know why?
