Engine taking long time to start

Post by jedwards83 »

I have to crank the engine a good 4-5 seconds before it'll start. Only happens after it's been sitting for awhile.

I used to be able to just flip the key to start, and the pre-programmed 1-2 seconds was enough that it would start on its own without me having to hold down the key. I've tried priming the fuel pump by flipping the key to on several times before starting, no change. Any usual suspects for this condition? Everything looks normal, no codes, driveability issues or the like. Sensor inputs, fuel trims and such look okay on a scan tool.

Does it do it when it's hot out and the engine bay is hot?

Nope, once it's been driven for awhile it wont do it. Only after it sits about 45 minutes or more.

Plugs is my guess, but it could be fuel related

Sounds like the FPR, or the valve in the fuel pump.

Mine is like you said, I can 99 times out of 100 just "bump & go".
