Transmission Fluid
Is there any way to add transmission fluid without jacking my car up? (96 se) I got the transmission replaced with one that had 34,000 miles on it..I find that a few times going up a steep grade my rpm will spike much like it did when I lost my old transmission..should I just shift into a lower gear while going up steeper grades? (going at about 65-73 miles an hour)..thanks! Dark_Knight

Re: Transmission Fluid
Why would you have to jack up the car to add transmissions fluid? Is the Trans low on fluid?

Re: Transmission Fluid
I was concerned maybe the reason for my spike in RPM was transmission related (I had looked up on how to add tranny fluid and it said I would have to jack up the car but i raised an eyebrow about that)..but now the more i read..it looks like it might be the throttle position sensor..I only have rpm spikes when going uphill around 60-75 mph..

Re: Transmission Fluid
You fill via the dipstick tube. It helps to have the proper funnel, which is long and tapers to a narrow end which slips into the dipstick tube, which is on the driver's side of the engine compartment. Check your fluid when the engine and transmission are warm, and with the engine idling and the car in park, then add till the fluid is at the top of the hashed marks.
Note: On these cars, some people over-fill by a pint or so, to prevent starving the pickup during cornering, etc. That only applies to these particular transmissions, and will damage others by over-filling. YMMV.

Re: Transmission Fluid
I changed the ATF in my neighbor's Grand Prix last weekend via the dipstick tube. I ran my pump's hose down into the pan, sucked out about 4 liters, added back what we sucked out via a funnel, then he drove it around the neighborhood and we repeated the operation. It took maybe 30 minutes total, and he has ~50% new ATF in there. We're going to do two more drain/fills in a few weeks so he will have ~75-80% new ATF in there. It was a piece of cake, and we spilled maybe a few drops.
