DexCool Settlement

Post by BonneBill »

FYI. I received a check for $83 yesterday, which represents a "pro-rated share" of the DexCool Settlement that GM had agreed to several years ago. This was to compensate owners for having upper intake manifold problems. I figured the whole thing went down the drain when GM filed for bankruptcy and the settlement was assigned to the old GM. Guess not.

$83? I suppose that'll cover most of it for a DIY job. But for lots of people, that's just a slap in the face. Like most class action suits, unless you're a lawyer, that is.

I thought the problem with the plenum was heat related from the EGR riser, and that the LOWER intake manifold gaskets were being damaged by the acidic formula of DexCool ? The first owner of my wife's '95 SE had the UIM replaced at 90k miles, and that model year was pre Dex...

Regardless, 83 bucks? That maybe covers the cost of the 'Dorman' upper kit, or a set of GM's aluminum LIM gaskets.

Nuthin' but crumbs left for the injured parties after the lawyers pick over the carcass.

A thorough coolant system backflush, followed by replacement with green coolant labeled "mixes with any".

I'm not sure if the newer formulation of Dex is also now acceptable...

I had to actually file for the settlement, I got two checks for $100 each. One car had a $100 deductable on the work, and the other hadn't had the work done on it (yet).
This was for the Chevy Venture van as we had two of them at the time.
