Groaning brakes
Re: Groaning brakes
do the brake pads have a square edge or a angled edge? I would say its the pads... suggest returning them and trying a different brand, specifically one with a angled/beveled edge. I have heard good things about EBC and i have a copper metallic pads on my vette that i really like. the brand is slipping my memmory for some reason.... got them checker/oriley auto.

Re: Groaning brakes
They are NAPA mid grade and they have a beveled ends if that is what you mean. It has been suggested that I get the pads with the seperation in the middle and that will solve my problem. I am at the point where i am going to replace the calipers to see if that is the problem!!!!!!
2000 SSEi (Silver Eagle) cleared corners (before accident) new LIM gasket, drilled 180 T-stat, new plugs and wires, new valve cover gaskets, new Supercharger gasket, third brake light overlay. Hopefully soon to start more mods for performance. Also, 2005 White SE totally stock and will remain that way!

Re: Groaning brakes
i doubt the calipers are making it groan... my money is still on the pads. Ohh and i remember the brand im runing on my vette, Performance Friction. My front pads do kinda what you say yours are doing but mine squeek rather then groan... i have scuffed the pads and turned the rotors lightly to deglaze them 2 times... fixes for a week or so then it always comes back so im just replacing them with different pads. but again i would return the pads and try another kind before throwing money at calipers that may not be bad.

Re: Groaning brakes
Just for moral support, I'd like you to know that you're not the only one with this problem. So you know, it's been about a year since I did my brakes, turned all 4 rotors, replaced all 4 with the highest grade Raybestos pads, completely bled whole system, and the groan started. Mine is just like the announcement deal describes: intermittently occurs with cold rotors, low speed braking, and mine's also on the rear brakes. Hasn't gone away in a year. I wonder if I tightened everything right. Either way, the car stops great and pedestrians in crosswalks pay plenty of attention.

Re: Groaning brakes
Thanks dayton...I am sorry but misery does love company. I have now put new rotors, new premium Napa pads, completely cleaned all boots, calipers, mounts, bolts and lightly lubed moving parts. Have bled each side and have basically done everything except rebuild the caliper. I got excited for a little while, and it is 90% better, but the groan is still there like yours. Guess we'll just have to run until we can't stand it anymore and then bring it into a specialist to get their opinion!!

Re: Groaning brakes
im in the same boat as you. brake overhaul, and introduce rear brake noise. i dont think mine is as noticeable as what you are describing though.

Re: Groaning brakes
Update...it is gone! After redoing everything and going premium along with bleeding the lines it is free of noise!! Once in a great while you hear a slight moan but basically I am good to go! LadyMac believes it was the brake line bleeding that did the trick! Hey, I can't argue with her, it works!!
