summer project idea

Post by jojo51592 »

A couple friends and I was sitting and talking about my car, and over time we got to the subject of trying to "beef up" my car. With it being just an sle something was said about getting an ssei engine more likely full drivetrain sense I want a SC, and rebuilding it and putting it in my car. They have the know-how of rebuilding them and I want to learn I thought this was a good opportunity to learn, but I wanted to check and see how you guys felt about it and see what other possibilities I have.

I would get an L32(later SC engine) drivetrain an start with that. Do a search for it, there is a few threads on it.

Want a faster car? Get something lighter with more cylinders

Well you are just gonna have to look around at junk yards. Also try here, www.car-part.com

I believe you are going to look in 2004 and newer supercharged vehicles. Till 07, IIRC.

I think ive seen on here that they are getting picked up for about $1K for the engines.

Hmm... just maintain this car and build my 90 mustang then?

Alright a local yard has an ssei, not sure year or anything might check into it though.

I have a chance for a sc with a k&n intake which has -70k, for $80. Not too sure cuz that turns into a lot more immediate work.

Build the Fox-body. Use the Bonne for your DD when the Fox-body is being a garage queen. In all honesty, it'll be far easier/cheaper to get a good-running 90 Mustang than a quicker Bonne. Building a Bonne can be done, but it's a lot of money for not a lot of reward. The HP/dollar ratio will be much more favorable with your Mustang than the Bonne.

Learn from the mistakes of others, that way when you mess up you can do so in new and interesting ways.

Dollar for dollar, tossing in an L32 is not that expensive and if you know what you are doing, you are already in the 14 second range in the quarter. Subsequent hp upgrades are easy bolt-ons. With the Mustang, if you are going NA, you will have to plan your build upfront to balance the components. Another nice thing about having the SC Bonne as a daily driver is that it is a nice mild mannered driver until you really need the HP since you are not under boost unless you constantly have your foot in it. Not so with a NA Mustang - your Gas Mileage is out the door as soon as you drop the V8 in.

I saw build the mastang. Parts are MUCH more readily available to get you into the 12s and still be very street friendly. Just do some searching on the net for V8 conversion. Build a turbo kit from an ebay turbo and you are good to go. A nice notchback has always been a "dream" car of mine.

that's why I was thinking about building the bonne. I might do a v6 tand turbo for the mustang so I save a little gas and still have power. It was my first car and I have always wanted to build it. I will try to put pics of both up when I get off work.
The bonne is my DD right now so I might work on it first and the mustang just sits, so I might put off the mustang since I'm going to keep that car my whole life.
