Which head gasket should I use??

Talk about modifications, or anything else associated with performance enhancements. Have a new idea for performance/reliability? Post it here. No idea is stupid! (please use Detailing and Appearance for cosmetic ideas)

Which head gasket should I use??

Post by bonniegirl »

Ok so Im trying to figure out if I should use a FelPro or a Cometic multi layer head gasket? Is the Cometic a little overkill? :dontknow:

Thanks,

Why are you doing headgaskets? Big mod plans or just a rebuild or what?

Sorry I guess a little background would help lol.

I bought a 2000 SSEi that had a bad knock so I have been debating on rebuilding it but now Im thinking about a crate motor from ZZP or a rebuilt one they sell. I will be purchasing a VS Cam and already have my PCM tuned for it. I will also be doing headers and an intake. I just want to make sure I build a strong motor that will last and have lots of HP

Well the car has 111k on it and I dont know what was done to it before I got it. Its in awesome shape inside and out and smells like an old ladies perfume in it so maybe it wasnt driven too hard ;)

Not to discourage you, but I got my lesabre from my grand mother. It was babies until 97k by her, and it has 116k on it now from me, and my trans is almost shot. Yours is the hd trans so it's a little better, but the transmissions in our cars are definitely the weak link. 01 is right, definitely budget for a trans, especially if you're camming. Just my $.02

So, back to headgaskets... I'm not familiar, is there a big price difference?

You should be good with stock style gaskets. I imagine you aren't looking for a super-lotta-crap-ton of boost since you are camming it and trying to stay a daily drvr.
