wth happened?! please help

Post by bonneville02 »

So on my 01 Bonneville se with 184 k on her I have a big problem. Let's go back about a week. When I let my friend use the car. When he st arted it up the engine was tapping pretty bad. But eventually went away. A few days later driving on the highway it started to run rough. The car eventually shut off on its own due to overheating. 20 minutes later it started back up made it to the house. So I replaced the plenum with the gasket cause it was bad. Changed
The oil too. So while filling it up with cool I went through 3 bottled no fill up. I then started the car and its missing, and all my antifreeze gone! Spitting out through the oil filler cap oil/coolant
When I put the cap on it made its way to my airbox. And it only runs for 5 minutes filled by smoking from under the hood.

You said it turned off on its own from overheating. How hot was it and how long was it driven while overheated?

Running the car that long overheated more than likely warped the heads and did more internal damage. I would definitely start looking for a replacement engine.

Sadly yes, not sure where you are looking for a replacement at, but if you are looking for a used one a series III out of a Grand Prix can be retrofit and will have less miles (in most cases)
2002 Bonneville SLE 128k miles aka "Frankenbonnie"
Intense PCM w/2004 improved trans shift points/180 fans-stat/+3deg timing advance/DTC inhibit
Transmission Cooler
Upcoming changes - Hi Flow Cat/Exhaust - Cold Air Kit

1993 GMC 'Burb aka "Zombie Assault Vehicle" 230k miles
