So, just thumbing through AutoTrader the other day, looking at Bonne GXP's, I come across a grey one... low and behold, the drivers side fog light is out. :)

Ddm hid bulbs are rubbish. The color temp is rarely matched within a pair. I've had a couple burn out in my blazer fogs. Their ballasts for that matter don't impress me either. Never had a failure of a 35w, but every 55w I've seen from them ends up with intermittant failures to ignight.
Led fog lights will work. I have them in my GXP. That doesn't mean they are any good, I am now looking into hid fog lights

I'm new here. Got a 2005 GXP "Bonnie" and I've changed so many fog light bulbs I can do it in my sleep. I've taken off the splash guard underneath. Haven't tried to remove the whole headlight unit. Might try that now.

My factory manual flow chart has suggested that my fog light switch itself is shorting. Makes some sense so I ordered one from the dealer for $103. Will try GM direct for next parts. Will try this and change the bulbs - again - and let you know if this works better.

My bulbs lasted in the past about a month.

If I find that GM engineer, I'm gonna tie him to the back end of Bonnie and open her up!

I went with 3000k 100w H3s made by Koshin and I left the back covers off to help keep them cool. I'll be sure to post when one of them goes out. Thanks for the walk thru and the tips everyone!
Well, just lost the passenger side fog light, so with the back covers off I got 4 1/2 months out of the bulb with only moderate usage. I guess I will have to get used to replacing these things! Small price to pay for such a great car I guess. Let's see how long the next pair lasts.

Another satisfied customer of GM's engineering on these lights I see... :)

Since you did it from underneath by taking the bottom splash guard off, you did put it back on, right?

Removing the two bolts for the headlight, removing it, and reaching down is quicker and easier (especially if you leave the moisture/dust covers off the light), than trying to crawl under there and pop off those 112 stupid press-fit connectors and then working out that whole unit.

Neither has Carl's car since December.

As of now, his horn sounds like it has a cold, and I worry about his FWI, though it's not a huge concern about that. Should it have one? Yeah, it was there for a reason. :btruestory:

Yea, you're not hurting anything, but as mentioned, it's there for a reason. Particularly with our fog lights being down in the lower portion of the bumper, in front of the wheels, splashing through puddles can definetely get water up there shorting out the circuit, blowing bulbs, etc.. But it's other purpose is to help direct airflow into the radiator, instead of out and under the car.

If you have a voltage meter it could be the switch that is defective because its very add that both lights will go out at the same time?? There are bulbs in them. I ordered HID Blue lights from Ebay and I am very pleased with how bright and blue thay are. Let us know if you have any other questions.

Yeah, we've been over this.

It's not the switch, it's the bulbs, and the one side's mounting point.

OEM halogens are about 3100-3300K.
OEM HID setups are about 4300K.
Those who desire a slight blue-white effect should go with 5000K.
The absolute maximum I would do before you start to lose performance is 6000K, and even then you won't see as well in rain/snow/fog.

I personally will never run anything other than 4300K in the low beam spot.

Agreed, anything over 6k and you start loosing Lumen output to get the desired blue'er kelvin rating.

stock I had 4300k Phillips D1S bulbs, I currently run 6000k Phillips D1S bulbs. I definitely dig the kelvin rating, but I will say, I do think I lost a little lumen output.
