Replacement Mirror Memory Problem

Post by spacelucky17 »

I replaced my passenger side mirror with a used one, with the same features, off another SSEi. For some reason every couple times I start it the mirror moves itself way out of position from where I set it at. I've searched the forum and found no information on this topic that seems relevant, so hopefully someone here can point me in the right direction... lol.

Are you sure you are on the correct number "Driver" when setting it? Try programming both driver positions.

I'm not sure if I know how to do that... as far as I know I just set them and they stay where I put them lol.

[Please forgive me if I start off with some info you already know -- just being thorough]

Do you have both sets of keys that originally came with the car? One key fob should have a number "1" on the back and the other should have a "2".

Take the fob that you use and start the car. Adjust seats, radio channels, mirrors, etc how you want them. There are actually something like twelve different items that have "memory" but these are the only three I can think of at the moment.

Turn the sound down on the radio. Reach over to the driver's door and push the numbered button that matches the key fob in the ignition. Push and hold that button until you hear a beep. This programs the car to restore all these settings whenever that key fob is used.

Take your other key fob and repeat the process. If someone else (wife, family member, etc) uses the other key fob, have them adjust all the settings to their liking before programming. Note that if you ever use this key fob, you will get the others persons settings. Sometimes you can forget this, and wonder why your car is acting strangely.

The programming can be updated as often as you like. Just push and hold the button that matches the key fob being used, and whatever settings you have will be stored.

Let us know if this info solves your problem. If not, we can explore other possibilities.

If this happens, just press your number (e.g., if you normally use fob no. 1, press no 1) on the door panel and the car will revert to your settings, regardless of which remote is in the ignition.

Just to clarify Human's useful tip; if you accidentally grab the "wrong" key fob, you can still get your settings without having to run back and switch fobs. Just press the button on the door with your settings. Press and release -- do not hold it down until it beeps. You will see instantly that all the memory items shift back to your preferred settings.
