Exhaust pipe size for an 04 SE?
I was wondering what size exhaust pipe they use on the 2004 Bonnevilles. I have a Flowmaster 40 Delta flow sitting in my garauge that I was thinking about putting on my car. I didnt want to cut off the old muffler though till I knew for sure what size they use. The Flowmaster is a 2.0 inch that I was going to put on my old Ranger and ended up not putting it on and its just been sitting in there so I was thinking about putting it on my 04 SE.
Im not looking to gain hp because I know I wont, I was just hoping to bring out the throaty sound more.

At the mufflers, should be 2 1/4" Don't quote me on that, that's what mine was though.

Re: Exhaust pipe size for an 04 SE?
Ok, I wasnt sure where to put this at so I posted here. I hope I put it in the right place.
Any way, I may Go pick up a 2'' -2 1/4" adapter tomarrow and hope its the right size haha, If not atleast the muffler on
the car is right at the rear and easy to get to. Im going to make sure to leave enough on the old muffler so if I dont like
it I can get a 2 1/4" -2 1/4" adaptor so i can put the old muffler back on.
I dont expect it to be to much louder since its the Delta Flow 40 but Im hoping to draw out a deeper throaty sound out of it.
Eventually after all the body work is finished I will problubly pickup the Y and rear duels out of a junkyard car and put that on
later but for now I thought it would be fun to put the Flowmaster on.

Re: Exhaust pipe size for an 04 SE?
It oughta change the tone quite a bit. When I had just the mufflers done on my car, it was a drastic difference. Granted, I have Super 44 Delta Flows, but the 40 isn't exactly a quiet muffler itself.

True, but I do know the Delta Flows are a good bit more quiet then the Original 40. That said I know its not going to be very quiet lol.

Delta flow has less cabin noise/drone. I have a regular super 40 on the 66, and a super 40 delta flow on the 85, and outside you can't tell that the one is delta flow and the other isn't. The Trans-Am is actually louder because of the custom exhaust it has, as opposed to the Cutlass. Delta flow adds another chamber for drone resistance. Doesn't make it that much more noticeably quieter.

o ok, I have never really had any issues with Flowmasters Drone haha. I like to hear my exhaust inside the car, but i would rather have a nice tone and have it be a little more quiet inside the cab then be loud and sound like sheeet.

Well I picked up the adaptors and a 10 inch piece of tail pipe. As long as it all fits then later i will buy a nice tip, but for now im not to worried about doing that till after the body work is finished.
Hopefully all is correct and I will have the 40 put on tomarrow afternoon.

I can back this up. Will's car sounds great from the outside. No drone on the inside. After being in my friends' 240SX's I'll be going with a custom Greddy exhaust 80mm tip...SSEiMan01 wrote:Delta flow has less cabin noise/drone. Re: Exhaust pipe size for an 04 SE?
I would like to eventualy get a nice tip, something problubly about a 3 inch maybe 3.5 but I also want it as long as I can to try to help it give as deep a tone as I can.
I want to at least want to get a new bumper cover before I put a nice tip on it, this is why I say that...

Im trying to scrounge up the parts to fix it ( I bought it for $875 from a car auction like this ), if I didn't already have the muffler I wouldnt be doing that yet but since I did I figured why not just through it on there lol.
Eventually though I want to get the Y section from a duel exhaust car and have the duels coming out the back, which is another reason why I am wanting to wait before putting on putting any fancy tips on just yet and why I want a new bumper cover (Aside from the damage) for the car.
Any way, Later today as long as every thing goes as planned I'm going to put the Flowmaster 40 on. Im just trying to get u the nerve, its only 2F outside and Im being kind of a baby about the cold this morning lol.

Re: Exhaust pipe size for an 04 SE?
Ya, my mom use to own it then when it was totalled I went to the auction and bought it (she didnt know she had to ask to buy it back or I may have gotten it cheeper lol) back. She was going 40 mph (slowing down) and a Ford Explorer SLAMMED into her sent her into a spin then he clocked the front driver side (isnt nearly as bad as the back) so they totalled the car. My neighbors son is an Auto body guy so Im ganna try to get him to help me with it, if he doesnt then Im going tot try to fix it myself lol not like I can hurt it much more.
Still a good running car though, still has plenty of cahoonas and shifts well and rides smoothe. Well worth the $875 in my opinion.
After I get a new rear bumper cover Im going to try to find the rear section off a duel exhaust car (Only ssei?) and a bumper cover with the cut outs for the exaust. If I cant find them then I will problubly have a custom exhaust done this summer and mod a SE bumper cover for the duel exits if I have to.
I Got the muffler on, not nearly as loud as I thought it would be and not as throaty either :( It is a little more throaty but not what I was expecting.

Re: Exhaust pipe size for an 04 SE?
Dual exit pipes would be on an SLE/SSEi. The addition of a second muffler won't do too much for these cars, mostly for looks and some noise effect...
The muffler not being as loud as you want is only a reason to change other things until it does, IMO. At least it's not TOO loud for your tastes. Now you could do other things like a PLog/ Downpipe/Hi-flow cat, or possibly a glasspack as a resonator. Or you could simply change the muffler. The fact that it is a 2" in/out may be affecting the sound slightly.
