New Member from around Milwaukee

Post by Mad Myche »

Purchased my first Bonneville (a 99 SE) yesterday. The records and condition show that has been functionally maintained to a point since new... Went from a family to their H/S aged daughter 2 years ago, and then she sold it to some twenty something last summer.

This is not my first 231 engine... I had an 87 Delta 88 with the 3.8 SFI and I also had a 97 GP GT for a short bit. So I know some of what I got.

My plan is to keep this car for awhile. I do have some of what should be simple maintenance to do to it, such as replacing bulbs in the trunk lid, generally cleaning, and tire balancing. And the traditional for me task of trying to get the drivers rear power window to work, my oldsmobile didn't work either
There are also some replacement things to do, such as finding a fog light (passenger side) and getting AC. Apparently the compressor went on it and was replaced with an ac-delete pulley
Then I have some installations to do... I am a volunteer fire-fighter and need to outfit with pretty red lights and a siren. The siren is actually one of the reasons I went this car, I could have hasd an Intrigue but there was no room in the nose for the speaker.
Once all that is done, I will be looking at maximizing the platform. I know there is more engine and suspension performance than what is being used

The car looks good! Always take more pride in a car when doing necessary repairs after purchasing. Looks like its a rust free car too, always a plus!

The issues are mostly little things. Suggestions are always welcome
1. Fuel Filler Door- has been diagnosed with a Necrotizing Metallic Maladay (AKA rusted through)
2. Antenna- pretty banged up. Haven't decided on a replacement
3. Fog Lamp- It's lonely since its mate has abandoned him.
4. Stereo- no rear sound
5. Windshield- side to side crack, at the bottom
6. Minor dings and dents
7. Overhead power, backing plate detached from assembly

Personal Observations after a week of driving
1. Handling: front end seems nice and crisp, rear end seems mushy
2. Power: seems to be where it should be
3. Fuel Economy: At a quarter tank now, ~275 miles on the ticker

**** Edit ****
Fuel Economy: First tank for me calculated at 20.5MPG. My driving is mostly mixed semi-urban driving, plus a few emergency runs for the fire department, and some lets see what she does activities
