Looks like she's a goner....Edited @ bottom
Looking more and more like insurance is going to write off my car. The claim has been placed with my BC insurance, and a report filed with the Edmonton Police. Because of the circumstances, I might not have coverage, due to being out of province for an "extended time" without notifying my insurance.
I have gotten a few estimates on the damage ranging from $3200 using non certified replacement products, up to $4100.... There are no GM replacement LF quarter panels left, they are all unavailable. Am at a point where if they write it off I'll be really upset, but if they decide it's still fixable, I know I won't be happy, because the paint won't match on the new panels compared to old, and apparently there are issues with the aftermarket fenders fitting nicely with the front bumpers. I've started looking online for similar cars in Canada with similar mileage to see what a fair market value is so I can present it to my Insurance.
This is the first car I've loved this much, even when dealing with the small issues I've had. Doesn't draw the comments like my lifted Jeep YJ or my Acura Integra did, but this one is by far my favourite.
I'm at a loss as to what I should be doing.
For those who missed it, Here are some pics

Re: Looks like she's a goner....
That's really a bummer man, especially under the hit and run circumstances...I would be so pissed. If it were my car, I could maybe deal with somewhat mismatched paint and having my car back.
Hope everything works out in your favor whichever it is.

Youd be surprised how close a good body guy can get paint to match...Id at least buy it back if they offer that, and keep the parts for the next one. I personally hope it can get fixed.

Have never dealt with insurance before, but I don't think they give that option in BC. Thing is, there are so few out here, and I don't have a place to keep it:( Waiting for a call on Tuesday, to be booked in with an out of province adjuster to have a look at it....SSEiMan01 wrote:Youd be surprised how close a good body guy can get paint to match...Id at least buy it back if they offer that, and keep the parts for the next one. It's even worse with the weekend in between.. Stewing over this isn't changing anything

They will have to blend the paint, but I'd bet it matches.

Re: Looks like she's a goner....
I feel your pain. I went through the same thing when I totaled my Aurora a few years ago. They wanted to offer me just over half the book value for the car. What really ticked me off was the offer was based not on book value but on "comparable" vehicles for sale within a couple hundred miles of where I live. At the time of the wreck, the car was 11 years old, had 75,000 miles on it, and was in pristine condition. Their "comparables" were a joke. All of them were two or three years older and had miles in the 120,000-140,000 range. The most nearly comparable one was a year newer and had 110,000 miles on it. I actually looked at that one with the idea of buying it, but it was in a lot rougher shape than the one I had.
I did my own research on eBay, Craig's List and Autotrader.com and found several far more comparable cars available that their "research" had failed to turn up, leading me to the conclusion that they were cherry picking their "comparables" to the point of basing their offer on borderline fictional values.
To top everything else off, the claims adjuster I had to deal with was an absolute ass from start to finish. Throughout the process, he tried to essentially bully me into accepting their ridiculous offer and when I asked to speak to his supervisor, he flatly refused to transfer me, telling me I had no choice but to deal with him. It took a few phone calls to their corporate headquarters and threats to go to the state insurance commission, but I finally got what the car was worth.
I could have bought the car back for $335 and would have done so had I had a place to keep it while I hunted for parts to fix it. The damage was largely superficial.
I still miss that car.

I'd fight with the insurance. There is a book (written by insurance companies, of course) that dictates the value of a car. Its called the Nada book, and if you google it and fill out your information it will tell you the value of your car. Im sure its value is higher than what the insurance person is basing off of since he is only looking at local cars.

Re: Looks like she's a goner....
After a week of not hearing anything from my adjuster, even after a few phone calls and voice mails. I have an adjuster coming to my work Monday morning to have a look at the car.
I hadn't washed the car since the incident had happened, mainly because It hurt to look at it, and being that the headlight lens is gone, I didn't want water in there burning out my bulbs. I washed the car and did a quick clean on it, to show the adjuster how well it's kept. Upon washing it, I noticed a few more scuffs/scrapes that had been covered up before. I really do not know what to expect come Monday.

The insurance company wants to give you flack for being out of your home area, and yet they are sending an out of province adjuster.

Re: Looks like she's a goner....
A little update...
The insurance adjuster came to my work place to see it on Monday. He was impressed by the mileage, and the overall condition of the car, asked a few questions and took a ton of photo's and then he was on his way.
Received an email yesterday saying to keep an eye out for another email coming, attached to it is a salvage release form.... Oh great . Kicker being my case still has to go to main office for them to review it and see if I'm covered. They want me to sign and fax this form back that gives them the right to tow, sell, or otherwise dispose of my car if it's not cost efficient to repair it. There hasn't been a call made on whether or not it's a loss or not yet, So they are not getting me to sign it. I sent an email back explaining why I wasn't sending it back yet.
Once they decide if I'm covered or not, the appraisal goes to the estimators, who look at the damage and the notes he took, and do a quote on what it'll take to repair it, and from there look at market value and see if it's getting repaired or not. So I'm waiting on the hook for another phone call, And it's not good news either way.

Only in some instances they will let that happen. I`ve heard that they will give you the amount of the estimate, and let you keep the car, so Obviously that`s what I`m hoping for00Beast wrote:You can't buy it back from them if it is totalled?

Phone call today... Nothing but attitude from the lady on the other end. Apparently I was supposed to have been called last week and told, but the car is indeed a write off. She was calling in regards to the salvage release i was supposed to sign and send back, which I haven't yet. The total amount of my compensation is $4260.79, Minus my $300 deductable, for 3960.79... Can't replace what I have for that...
I asked multiple times about buying it back, and it is not being allowed, only certain times do they make exceptions for it. They wanted to come pick it up today, and I told her to go fly a kite. Am now really in a hard spot being without a car when they finally get it.

I would of told her to go fly a kite, where the sun don't shine. And don't bother wasting my time until you come up with a better offer or an offer that lets me keep the car.
Is it not possible for you to get replacement body parts?
