rebuilding aftermarket deck
Pulled a fried Pioneer deck out of a car we're selling and replaced it with a used pawn shop unit, so now we have this old deck laying around, and I got curious. I want to buy another pawn shop deck for like $20, and try putting the amps from that deck into the fried one. The dead one was supposedly pretty expensive when it was new, and I just want to see if I can do this or not... just for fun. I'm wondering if anyone has had an aftermarket deck apart and if this is possible...

I have never had one apart, but I am sure it will be tough. If the amp unscrews that would maybe work but if its soldered, forget about it.
Just curious what is the model # of the deck?

Re: rebuilding aftermarket deck
It could just be a simple capacitor or some other component. Have to see if you see any small burn marks across the PCB.
Does it turn on at all?

Re: rebuilding aftermarket deck
Wow I'd forgotten all about this, but now that I'm reminded this deck got left in a car I sold. Darn it. But yeah, the deck did turn on, and everything seemed to function properly, there was just no sound, tested all the speaker wires at the back of the deck and had no power.
