EGR valve

Post by postalba »

I took my car in over the gas cap issue and it turned out to be the EGR Valve, two places are giving me prices of over 300 for the part but when I go online I find it for much cheaper but then again I am just a girl and I am not sure if it is the right part or not. I just don't want to spend another 500 on labor and parts to get my car fixed again.

The most expensive EGR valve at the Rock Auto site is about $147. That's the AC/Delco part. It is relatively easy to replace with basic tools.

How did they determine that this was the problem with your gas cap code? I can't think of a way that the EGR valve would affect the evaporative emissions system. The EGR is for exhaust. The evap system is for fuel.

something about it flutters and stays open. once again I am not a mechanic so I am not sure. I guess I will check with my brother in law to see if he can do this and buy it myself.

The EGR valve can and will not be the cause of your check gas cap message. Get the codes scanned, and report back here with the numbers and descriptions, eg; P0440 Evaporative Emissions Leak Detected, or whatever. I'm not saying you don't need an EGR valve, but it's a separate problem.

If it does need to be replaced, it's simple. 2- 10 mm nuts and an electrical connection.

Most parts stores have a code reader that you can use, and if you asked nice they may help you.

P0440 Evap System large leak detected and PO404 EGR valve open position performance.. Verifified SES light on with P0440 & P0404 stored. Tested evap system using evap cart adn tech2, evap system holds adn releases pressures as it should. followed diag for P0404 found EGR valve postion flutters with valve open. need to replace EGR valve adn update programming to accomodate new valve.

that is what they put on my sheet from the gm place

Ok, just know that these are 2 different problems, and need separate troubleshooting and repairs.

http://www.amazon.com/Delphi-EG10026-EG ... 389&sr=8-1

It's a $4 difference between Rock Auto and Amazon. If you have Prime, or haven't used a free-trial, get it. If not, go through Rock Auto, get the Delphi and use the code from the top of General Chat.

GM was telling me it would cost 500 with parts and labor to fix this problem with the part being 300 and that is where I have the issue with. How can I find something so much cheaper and they tell me it is double the price.

Because they can't set their own prices, and their labor is expensive. I bought an AC Delco EGR valve from my local parts store, and had my mom pick it up. $400!!!! I had her promptly return it, lol.

I checked advance auto parts and they had one for 163 so I think my father in law and brother in law will fix it. Once they fix it will that stupid SES light go off or will I have to take it in for them to reset it.

Get the one online, unless Advance has a Delphi for $163? That or AC Delco only.

+1 on the AC Delco......Seen first hand an immense difference in my emmisions levels between a Borg-Warner (which I thought was a descent brand name but failed the test huge) and an AC Delco (very low levels-passed with flying colors).....IMO....

The Delco unit is just a re-stickered Delphi. The OEM was Delphi.

If you get it from Advance Auto Parts, buy it on line, select pickup in store, and most important, use BIG30 for the coupon code. it will save you $30 off the price of your purchase. They also had an promotion, which I don't happen to remember the details, you would also get a coupon off your next purchase over $100. Good luck!! - BC
